Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Chris King Aeroheads - Specs and Pics

just recieved my new wheels from my lbs here in austin (thanks nelo's).

i wanted a wheelset that was strong, strong, durable, durable, and light (in that order). so, i knew that chris king was the only way to go for hubs. found a great deal on the hubset on ebay in the color i wanted (hook 'em).

after i had the hubs, i struggled with choice of builders: mike garcia, joe young, peter white, all of the different local lbs's, etc. finally decided on going with an lbs that i trusted. time will tell if the decision was the "right one"

specs:

rims --> velocity aerohead, orange (32h)
hubs --> chris king classic hubset, mango (32h)
spokes --> dt competition 3-cross
nipples --> dt alloy/brass mix
tires --> michelin krylion carbons (grey)

my specs:

weight --> 200
height --> 6'2"
riding style --> pedal smasher
bike --> 2006 giant tcr composite limited

weight from shop (sans veloplugs): front - 750g|rear - 900g|total - 1650g

and, on to the pics:

front wheel:

rear wheel:

all together now:

on the tcr:

will be posting a much more in-depth review after about 200-300 miles (post break-in). initial thoughts right now:

+ love the sound of these. no better inspiration than a "killer swarm of bees" to keep pedaling
+ much stiffer than my xero xsr3's the tcr came with
+ love the color
+ can't wait to ride a ton on these!

cheers,
el

I like the orange rims.... a nice contrast to the black and white.

May I suggest orange handelbar tape or even bottle cages. (prolly hard to find)

already got the handlebar tape, but haven't put it on yet. will post in the next review after 200-300 miles.

couldn't find orange bottle cages at all. so, went with grey/black to match tires.

I'm likely doing the Outlaw century also. Just killed myself on the Rip Roaring century. Love riding this time of year. Weather's usually perfect.
