FC-R700 & 105 Front Derailer

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

FC-R700 & 105 Front Derailer

Over the off-season I want to upgrade from my 105 triple to a compact double crank. Since my derailers are all based on a triple, I am going to need to replace everything anyways. I am leaning toward a Campy Centaur compact. However, I am intrigued by the Shimano FC-R700 compact crank.

My initial understanding based on some store catalogues was that I would need at a minimum Ultegra 10-Speed derailers in order to use the FC-R700. However, now that 105 is 10-Speed, would I be able to upgrade to 105 and still use the FC-R700?

I tried to find a contact # at the Shimano web-site. Well - they do not provide one, which is irritating, because these questions are typically best answered by the manufacturer. I even examined the technical guide on-line, and it failed to state what derailers it was compatible with.

Not sure it was officially "compatible", but when I switched to the R700, I was using an ultegra 9spd fd. So I'd imagine even a 105 9spd would work...

EDIT: or 105 10spd.
