1" forks going way of the dodo?
Hi,
I'm still on the fence about upgrading my steel fork to carbon and was wondering, are 1" forks are still being used on any production bike? Seems 1 1/8" is the minimum these days, which makes me wonder if the availability of 1" forks will start dwindling, just as the choices for 1" quill stems are scarce these days compared to a few years ago.
If 1" forks are on its way out, then I might as well upgrade now or the choices for parts (fork, headset, and stem) will be more limited and expensive in the future. Right?
Thanks

The availability might decrease but how many more forks do you plan on needing? If I had a reasonably light steel bike that I wanted another 4-5 years out of I would definitely put a carbon fork on it. I may do just that after I finish my Flyte build.

There are plenty of 1" forks out there. As long steel frames are still being built, there will be forks available for them.

I bought a nice frame with a one inch fork yesterday. Ten years from now they will
still be making bikes with one inch forks.

If you want carbon, and I said carbon, not Cro-Moly, then you get 2 types of forks. 1. Expensive ones from companies that see they are more aero and not too much more flexible. 2. ****ty cheap ones. Good luck finding one in between. This is especially true if you have a really tall head tube as I did. I'd advise measuring it then hitting ebay. You can always have a shop cut one down a bit and redie it.

This explains why it's so darn hard to find a 1" threadless road fork, and not some straight-blade, 650c, or threaded fork.
All I want is a 1" metal steerer curved blade 700c carbon fork (has to be clyde friendly).

I did this search earlier in the year. I wound up with a full carbon Look fork for a small increase on the standard forks. ITM still make them, as do Deda and Columbus, and there are plenty of cheaper ones too.
But it was frustrating trying to source one locally; no one had one, and one shop spent 3 weeks trying to get one.

I recently bought the Performance Forte Axis Pro, 1" carbon steerer with stem, headset and carbon spacers. They were $189 - $37.8 (20% coupon) The fork should be on my Cannondale soon.

Sounds like most folks here think the 1" forks will be available for a while yet. So no need to panic about availability and choices yet.
I'm not crazy thinking quill stems are getting pretty rare, though.

Heck, I got a Forte Axis straight blade carbon fork from Performance for $75 on sale. It's a little heavy at 485g, but it's one solid fork.
