Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Congrats! My 16 year old son & I did the 50K ... his first organized ride. He had a blast, and really enjoyed the rest stops and meeting some other nice cyclists along the way. He had enough energy left to go referee an ice hockey game last night! The old man had to recover, so I'm skating this morning ...

Was that a spectacular weather day or what?

Good ride Carrera! I think I'm going to set a century as a goal for next season. I've done metric's a few times, so I think it's doable.

You can also edit your original post by clicking the edit post link, but we all know you meant Macho.

Keep pedaling,

Denny

I was there as well and enjoyed it, although some portions were on busy highways. I thought it was well supported and organized. There was some discussion last year about some support issues, so I was a little concerned. But, kudos to them for doing a good job.

I had two flats yesterday. One of them when I was making a pretty steep bank on a turn. The rear tire blew and my back wheel started skidding out from under me. Don't know how I managed to stay upright, but I luckily did.

Did you all notice that there were an unusual number of flats during the ride? I did, even before I flatted.

there were flats everywhere! and it was super cold in the morning wasn't it? my hands were freezing. and then later on, it was like, over 80 degrees. i regret not bring sunscreen though. it was beautiful, but not enough deep green for me.

I've Googled a few times but I can't seem to find any organized centuries in or around Silicon Valley. Do y'all know of any more? I'd love to do one.

Most of the centuries are done for the year. Here's the (sort of) master list for California, a good reference for the rest of this year and all of next:
https://www.bbcnet.com/RideCalendar/RideListDate.asp

There's a metric coming up on November 5 out of Stockton. Won't bee too hard, but should be a nice ride if the weather's good: Giro D'Vino

There's also one in Solvang on the same weekend,
