Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Whats the difference???

Can someone help me figure out the difference between these 2 sets of Easton Vista SLs??? I'm looking to buy some....

The red ones seem to be the "current model" and I dont know what model year the yellow ones are or what feature differences there are.

ANY help would be appreciated!!

Well that only took forever. I knew I had seen the yellow set before btu I had a hard time finding it. They were an OEM version of the Vista SL that was made for Felt in 2005 and sold on the F55 road bike.

I don't know that there are any differences but the yellow ones are for sure take offs which in my mind means they are worth less (unless they were something special...but they aren't) than the retail model.

Not my cup of tea, but if you like them then sure.....I would go for a set of Mavic Open Pro/Ultegra wheels from Performance if it was me...they will last longer.

I have a set and the free hub seems to skip the engagement sometimes(irritating) and the Open Pros have that nasty "click" that drives me nuts....

I figure try something new....

P.S. Im a heavy rider and dont want to spend alot on wheels if I destroy them.... I contacted Easton and they said the Vistas would work for my weight.... dunno if they are just trying to sell me wheels....

A bit of warning...I too am a heavier rider and Easton told me the Circuit would be fine for me weight "we know of riders much heavier then you with thousands of miles on Circuits with no issues" My Circuits needed trued more than once a month for the 3 months I owned them and I wound up selling them after having Easton rebuild them. Since then I haven't owned a wheelset with less than 32 spokes on the rear wheel.

Honestly I prefer DT Swiss RR1.1 rims to the Mavics and I am a Campy guy so I wouldn't actually get the Ultegra/OPs but feel the Centaur/RR1.1 I would get is equivilant...though pricier. You shouldn't have any issues with a properly built set of Ultegra/OPs though, and that Ultegra hub shouldn't skip...I would get it serviced by a shop that knows what it is doing. I do have a 105 hub on my commuter (Salsa DelgadoX rim) and it has been flawless for over 5k miles with use in all conditions, on road and off and no service (I really should treat that bike to an overhaul ).

about how much do you weigh? i've had a set of circuits for a couple of years and there have been no problems whatsoever. i think easton have themselves a great product, personally. but i weigh in at about 170 on average.

If that comment was directed to me I weigh in at 220 +/-5 lbs. The wheels were great when they were true....they just didn't stay true. Easton claimed the build was bad but since my LBS had trued them they wouldn't warranty the rebuild. I said there was no way I would own a wheel that my LBS can't true and there was no way I was sending my wheels back to Easton every time they needed trued. So I don't.

yeah, that's a tough one. i have a good MTB racer friend who weighs about that much, and while he has no problems with his MTB stuff, he does tend to be a little hard on road equipment.
if i had to guess, i'd say you'll have better luck with straight pull spokes than j-bends.
for while there, i was popping regular spokes left and right(front and rear) and that's when i decided to go with the circuits. and like i said, i've had zero issues with them.

don't know what to say. from what i can tell, experiences like that aren't the norm with easton stuff.
