Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Opening a new biker bar in SF... let me buy you a beer... or two...

Hey all,

I'm helping open a new biker bar in San Francisco. It's called Gestalt and the theme is 'beer, brats & bikes'.

We're going to have 20 German beers (or thereabouts) on tap and sausages on the grill. INDOOR bike rack parking for 24 bikes too.

The jukebox got delivered today and the pool table comes tomorrow.

The address is 3159 16th St. (94103) between Valencia and Guerrero. We're right across the street from Kilo-watt.

We open for business on November 1st. Come and ask for me, I'll be behind the bar Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights. I'll buy your first two beers, but you gotta park your bike! Ask for me too... we're just two blocks up from the 16th street mission BART stop. We have nice two level metal racks so your ride won't get banged up or stolen.

Cheers!

~d

Next time I go to SF to visit my sister, I'll take you up on the two freebies. Sounds like a cool place.

German beers? What about California beers? Really most of the folks I ride with a beer freaks, but the local stuff is great. Speak Easy, Bear Republic, Drakes, Marin Brewing, not to mention Stone from SanDiego. Is the local cyclist crowd into german beer? Just curious. Im not far from there, but lets face it I can find german beer all over the place in the bay area.

...but can you park your bike inside whilst you drink it and shoot pool?

I miss Macondo. You have anything to do with Zeitgeist? Just curious about the similar all-encompassing Germanism.

well, the floor is painted hardwood. adding cleats to that might make the floor slicker than snot on a glass doorknob. so it's your call.

Interesting.

Make sure you mean cyclist-biker, not biker-biker. Assless chaps and spandex don't mix.

Yeah, when I first read "biker bar," I thought it meant motorcycle-type biker, not crank-it-up-to-400-watts-on-my-fixie-type biker.

I'll be sure to check it out, but plan to leave the spandex at home so the mission fixie crowd doesn't make fun of me.

It's a business decision. I'm partial to Oregon beers myself, though there are many fine offerings from CA. I wish the best to datenschwanz and will frequent his bar the next time I'm near his bar -- such places deserve to succeed. However, I'll bring my POS bar cruiser rather than my racer......

the offer is good until the guys tell me no more. i suppose it depends on how many BF peeps show up really.

come on down. i suggested the indoor bike parking because i know how i fear for my ride when i can't see it even if it is locked.

see you there!
