My Shakedown of the Cannondale
As some people now know, I got a killer deal on a brand new Cannondale R1000 from a dealer located in KY, which I got for 50% off ($1000). https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...0115&rd=1&rd=1
The guy shipped the bike super fast (3 days), and it was in flawless condition, pre assembled and everything was greased and ready to go. I adjusted everything but was foiled by the cold, horizontal rain Ohio has been having as of late.
There were some setbacks on the bike however; the online dealer I bought my new bars from sent me 44cm bars instead of the 42's stated in the auction. I don't know if it was his fault, but the package said 42cm. So I had no 42 bars I could put on that were loose, except for the Sakae Custom's on another bike, so I nabbed those. Another setback was the Shimano FlightDeck computer I bought, which doesn't show my gearing or speed, and the speed sensor may not fit on my Slice fork.
Despite these setbacks, I was able to get the bike ready in [almost] final trim for a shakedown today. I did 50 miles on it and let me tell you; IT WAS AWESOME! At first, the bike felt really squirly, because I bought it in a 54 despite me being a 56, but once I got the feel it felt awesome. It still feels a little bit squirly during sprints, but I can get used to that. I ended up moving my stem down 4 spacers, and changing my seatpost height about 5 times, but now that I have it, I won't need to adjust anymore.
The only things that need to be changed are the bars (which are a great shape, but are pretty scratched) and the stem (I have a 140mm, need a 120mm).
ABOUT THE BIKE:
Words cannot express how amazing this bike is. I can drop a knee in crosswinds, and it just feels so balanced. Cannondale really worked their asses off on this little gem. It climbs hills like a mountain goat on ecstasy, and descends like a Falcon on speed. On the downhills, I've noticed that I can descend much, much faster with more stability, most of the squirliness in the steering goes away. It's also amazing how much better the frame feels than my '87 Cannondale with it's steel fork. The carbon Slice Premium fork and the hourglass stays really do their part to absord road vibrations, but just enough to keep the bike very stiff. The bottom bracket is also VERY stiff, and I can go much faster in sprints with it. It's also feathery light at 18.3#!!
The Shimano Ultegra group is awesome too, but what can you expect from the leader in bicycle components? The only complaint is that I can't feather in the FD a lot. in the big>small combo, there is a lot of chain rubbing, but I'll see what my LBS can do about that. The brifters are very cool, and are easy to get a hang of, and the hoods accomodate a lot of hand positions. It's cool that you can brake without even pulling the lever.
Not to forget, the wheels; I don't see why the Mavic Ksyrium Equipes get a bad name from everybody here. Even at 1800some grams heavy, they're very light, are wind-cheating and spin forever. The also move a lot easier than my old Wolber's (duh!)
Overall, I got an amazing deal on the bike and I really love it. I'll even go as far as saying that it's comfortable enough to do a century on!

I ride a CAAD8 also, just love it. I'm still blown away every time I ride the thing. Considering all the highend Euro framesets I've owned, from steel to carbon, this all Al made in the USA gem just rocks.

I assume you mean OCP?

I think it's tough to beat Cannondale in the bang for the buck category.
Glad you love it-- I had a CAAD3 years ago, and I have to agree that the CAAD8 is a big leap in terms of maintaining the stiffness but adding some comfort.

In fact. I did my first ever century on my '06 R1000 this past spring. Didn't feel beat up in the least. Was supposed to do a 2nd this fall, but my schedule wouldn't allow for it. Will do another I'm sure.

The bang for the buck is what really draws me to Cannondale in the first place. Hopefully my next bike will be a SystemSix with Dura-Ace, but who really knows?
I'm 5'11" and the bike fits comfortably.
BTW: Here's a picture of my setup right now, some stuff still needs done, but what can I do on a Sunday night?

New stem, cages, bar tape and computer installation. I'm not entirely sure if I want to keep the awesome Sakae's or go with the Ritchey WCS's that the guy owes me. The Ritchey's look cool and I haven't tested the 42's, but the Sake's feel cool, and I like the classic bend. Not to mention that I'll be getting a Dura-Ace RD pretty soon, and maybe some Xero XR-1 Race wheels as backups. You can't beat a 1520g light race wheel for $200!

But anyway, congrats on your purchase. I've got an '05 R1000 and I love it. Though the only thing stock on it is the frame/fork/headset.

That red seat is very gay.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Enjoy the Cdale. Nice bike.
