Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What is the deal with the girl zippers?

Ok so recently I have gotten 3 cycling garments: Assos Gator Jacket, Nike vest from LAF and the Champion Systems BF jersey. Each of these garments has a full zip and all of them are men's garments but all of them also have the zipper on the left side which when I was growing up meant it was a women's garment. Every other piece of cycling clothing I have (2 jackets, 2 vests and another full length jersey) has the zipper on the right side.

What is the deal here? You would think it just wouldn't matter but in fact rather than being able to without looking put the zipper together and zip it up (as I would like to do with say the vest while riding) without even thinking about it, I now have to remember which jacket, vest or jersey I have on and look down to make sure I have it together and get it to zip up quickly (which sucks when you are riding down the road at any rate of speed and sucks more when you are going slow).

You know that was my first thought when I got the Assos jacket but then the Nike vest and Champion Systems jersey threw me.

Try a 'girl' fishing shirt next that uses buttons, buttoning 8 buttons from the 'wrong' side is time consuming.
Hi tech shirt buttons are reversed too.

Actually, a recent jersey purchase threw me as well. Not only was the zipper on the opposite side, it was freakishly small. My armpits were being hacked in two. It felt like I was squeezing into some kids onesie.

Huh...go figure. I have a Nashbar vest which is on the right side and a Performance thermal jersey (why did they discontinue the Sirocco jersey after 1 year?) which also has it ont he right side.

This kinda reminds me of the Seinfeld where Jerry was carrying his European carryall (a.k.a. purse).

Jerry: It's not a purse, it's European!

That's what I was starting to wonder, because the rain jackets I got from Louis Garneau are like that.

Well...this thread clears up that I'm not going nuts....my daughter gave me a hooded fleece jacket (size XL) and the fisrt time I went to zip it up I notice the zipper's on the left side. So I gave her hell for getting me a women's jacket...so she says it's a "Shady Limited" (or something like that) designed by Eminem and he only does men's clothes. I was still skeptical....now I see it's just the fashion industry's way to f*ck with the over 40 male mind

The whole purpose of the opposite is for ease of removing when facing a female (mirro image). Kind of like it is imposiible for most guys to tie a tie facing someone, but in reverse.

When a guy wears' female buttoned/zippered clothing it will be virtually impossible for a female to remove the clothing due to the side issue (opposite opposite side). So, rest assured no lady will be undressing you while you wear girl clothes.
