Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Zipp 145 Carbon stem

Has anyone used this stem before, I haven't heard a lot about it. It looks a lot like the Bontrager XXX lite stem. Same stem, different cosmetics?

I've had both, they are different. They might come out of the same factory, as construction is very close, but the Zipp is a 6 degree stem, the Bontrager is a 12, the faceplate mounting holes are also spaced differently. That said I would guess performance would be about the same. I didn't like the extreme 12 degree angle on the bontrager, flipped down it had to much drop for me, and flipped up, it didn't look right.

The Zipp must be very stiff. Giddeon Massie has one on his track bike.

They most certainly do not come out of the same factory.

I have one. Pez Cycling News described it as "Opening a can of whoop-ass." They weren't wrong. It absolutely doesn't flex at all. But it vibration damps. I'd have one on all my bikes if I had my druthers.
