Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your opinions on Scott Speedster S30 Bicycle

I was browsing at the LBS today and saw a Scott Speedster S30 CD road bike. They want $1099.00 with 12 months same as cash financing for it and I was wondering if it is a good deal.

Here is a link to the manufacturers web page on the bike:
https://www.scottusa.com/product.php?UID=9817

Any and all opinions on the bike and its components along with other bicycle recommendations are welcome.

I don't think that's a fastastic deal (but the 12 mo. free financing is nice), but it's not bad. If it fits you, get it.

it's basically the same bike at that pricepoint from any other brand. i personally think scotts are pretty cool looking. if you have the money & that's what you want (& it fits), do it!

I like my S2, That price seems about normal. If you like the way the bike rides then you are set, Scotts Frames are good stuff.

I've got an S20 and absolutely love it. However, for an '06, I only paid about $150 more for it than the S30 you're looking at. Is that an '07 or '06???

Sounds like a great price on an '07, but only so-so on an '06.

I bought an '06 S20 new in March and I love it. I wish I had gone with the S10 for a $1,000 more as it was super light, but this was my first big bike purchase and it's fine. I will upgrade the stock Shimano wheels at some point though. I bought mine on sale from a local bike shop and our race team's sponsor so I got a screamin' deal, but that seems decent. I looked at the local shops website and they are selling an '06 S30 for a little more than that, so I would go for it! Good luck!

Have they put a replaceable derailleur hanger on it yet? Otherwise a good bike. Lots of them round here and people seem to like them a lot.

I think it is an 07 because the dealer has just started selling the Scott brand. The regular price was $1199.00 but they had a get a $100 gift card with purchase of $1000.00 offer and he said he would take the card value off the price of the bike.

I like everything except the crankset. I hear the Truvativ compact cranks light to drop chains a lot. But that's just hearsay, I've never used one myself.

Marc, you can tell 06 v. 07 just by the colors. If it matches the website link's coloring scheme, then it is an 07. They made big color changes between the 2 years.

Not sure what else they changed for sure, but the color is easily spotted.

It is an 07 for sure. It looks just like the pic on the website.

if it's an 07, then that sounds like a pretty good price. Probably a slight bit higher than other brands similarly speced, but, everybody you ride with won't have one already.

I have an S1 (2005) and I paid barely over what you're saying there... if you have local tax of... well anything, you'll pay more.. so I say.. great bike, but so-so pricing, unless it's 2007. And then it's basically the same price you can get it anywhere for.

Oh, and I love my Speedster.
