Hey Doc, Your buddy Richard is wearing a tank-top, not a sleeveless jersey.

I wear sleeveless alert shirts and cheapo Target poly shirts in the summer, but I hate sleeveless jerseys because they are just barely sleeveless, fitting tightly around your shoulders (and yes, they look fruity too). I like roomy sleeveless shirts, where the bottom of the cut comes halfway down my torso. I even had to recut my alert shirts to make the holes bigger. Don't like tank tops much either, they look too much like 'wife beaters'.

I thought about it because it gets pretty muggy in the summer here. But I have a lot of sun spots on my shoulders from surfing for years without sunblock(young and stupid). The older I get the more I seem to worry about skin cancer. I don't have anything against them though. If you like 'em, wear 'em.

Nay.
Can't wear 'em racing, and it keeps the sun off of my pasty white shoulders.

If it is over 90 degrees with 90% humidity, I really don't care whether or not someone else approves of the sleeveless jersey look - it is noticeably cooler, and I'll wear one! Think about it: If you're already shaving your legs, walking in shoes that sound like high heels, and wearing lycra shorts commando-style... worrying about how macho you look is kind of like stressing about putting screen doors on the Titanic.
Unfortunately my "tan" is virtually non-existent. Let's just say that I could have inspired the song A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum. My skin tone is about as dark as the background to this post, so I need to use SPF One Million to keep from burning during long rides, sleeveless jersey or not.

hello
I have a couple of Performance brand sleeveless jerseys among others. Yes, they're comfortable and I use them March thru November.

I wear them when it's hot out.
Fruity? I think not. Maybe it's because unlike some others in here I actually have arms. Is that not OCP of me?

so... you're out riding and it's like 110º and you're running low on water because you're pouring most of it on your body to trying to keep cool... ...nows not the time to take advice from a bunch of people who spend more at BF than at actually cycling. wear what will make you feel most comfortable
i wear them when it's over 100º. and when your riding 300 miles a week in the summer, you've got to even out the tanlines a little bit so that i don't look like a police car (black on the ends and white in the middle). the cool way is to use your old team jerseys that are wearing out and cut the sleeves off.

No need for them here in Victoria but if I lived in a hot climate, I'd definitely have a few.
+1, BTW, to the absurdity of the idea of a shaven lycra-ite somehow losing his machismo when his 2" sleeves come off...it's already long gone!

i do have a duofold long sleeve thermal underliner. That can make the useage of short sleeve jerseys last through November. Maybe.
