Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Please don't hate me, but ...

Please don't hate me, but it was 69 F with a beautiful blue sky today. A perfect day for wearing shorts, short sleeved jersey with a base layer, and fingerless gloves for a midday 55 mile ride. With the semester break looming I might get 1000 base miles in this month.

Talked to my father in east central Illinois on the phone afterwards about the weather and he told be to shut up and that our conversation was OVER.

On the flipside, I don't ask for any sympathy when I suffer through 6 months of hot and humid weather.

+1

Got a 3 1/2 hour ride in today in the mid 40's, and was quite comfortable.

My feet froze the other day when it was 25f and I got booties today. Have yet to ride with them but they seem warm. Also got a really cool old jersey from a friend when fuji was sponsored by mercury or something...

Neoprene booties are nice....although for whatever reason, my toes got a little chilly the other day when it was 20 degrees out. Throw a little saran wrap around the 'ol toes outside the socks, and it helps (did that today...toes were fine without any kind of booties in mid 40 degree temps).

I will hate you just the same.
The right clothing can make nearly any weather very enjoyable. The biggest downside is A) the cost of said gear and B) the time and effort it takes to get ready. Much more involved than in the summer.

That's nothing. I went out today in shorts too, and I live 1500 miles north of you. It was 56 at the high when I left.

It's a perfect day here in San Diego, but instead of riding, I think I'll just sit here on the couch.

Its 72 right now in Miami area. Way too hot IMO. I would much prefer some good 55 degree weather

yesterday was perfect riding morning here... not much wind, about 27 (degrees) was the max for the day, but when we met for our bunch ride around botany bay it was probably 18.

Oh summer in Sydney is so great!

I suck. The highs for this weekend were in the high 50s to low 60s. Did I ride? No. Riding to work requires so much effort this time of year that I have no desire to ride on the weekend. Weekday rides are a blast but tiring. Instead I jogged, swam, and lifted weights at the recreation center. Hopefully, this slump ends soon.

My thoughts exactly!

Sleeveless jersey today actually. Only problem with the SE coast of Fla this time of year is the constant headwind. 10-15 steady today but was hitting 20-25 yesterday. Oh well.

Temps are warming up here in Missouri, but the wind is still killer...20-30mph gusts apparently.

Listen up ******* ... the expression is "I could NOT care less" or, if you like contractions, "I couldn't care less". If you need me to explain the difference between these two and "I could care less" then you are less deserving of life than I already assume you to be.

Sounds like Friday's ride: 40F with 20 mph winds. Espresso laced with Knob Creek hit the spot after that ride.

True, but I prefer to ride without leg warmers or tights. YMMV.

+1. Who needs florida when thanks to global warming we Ohioans have 45-50 degree days in the middle of December? We'll definately be hurting later in the week but I'm going to enjoy it while I can. What a nice day we had to build up my base miles for next year.

It almost hit 40 today, but there was way too much snow still on the roads to feel safe riding in traffic. We did grill out in the driveway though
