DIY: Home iPod mount (Weighs 10 grams!)
Yea yea, go ahead and say it isnt safe to ride and listen, but I keep it turned down low, and Ive yet to have a problem. Ok, so Im sitting here in my dorm, and found some extra of this:
I then glanced over at the iPod, and thought, "why not, its time to study, so Im going to do the next logical thing, and make an iPod mount." Thus the saga begins. Pay attention though, this is VERY involved.
First step, peel back the paper and cut off the pull tab of the velcro things and mount 2 and a half of them onto the iPod, such as:
Now, do the same to the *gasp* bike and press down:
If it doesnt resemble that, well, you're a moron. All said and done, it will lay flat like:
Which makes it easier to use during riding. I went out and did a 10-miler on it earlier and had no troubles at all. Works VERY well, but Ill be sure to keep an eye on the velcro stuff. Just thought others might like to know. You could do it for a cell phone too I s'pose.
Thats all folks,
Matt

Thats so non-aero... and you will never hear the cars coming... and the weight is really going to hunder you in climbs....
I sometimes ride with heaphones, early mornings w/ no traffic... but usually not anymore. Anyway, Glad it works, but you are a brave man to strap a $300 gizmo on your bike with some velcro!

Well, feel free to use your imagination and place a cell phone there instead. Haha, it was just an idea as a result of sheer boredom.

You're going to either 1) knock your iPod off your bike at 20 mph or B) destroy the drive due to vibration.
I'd find some other solution...

No bueno. I don't like the velcro on the top tube either.

Wow, somehow "you might be a readneck if..." comes to mind! If the vibs dont destroy the HD, when it falls off the impact will. At least get some high velocity velcro. get a new shuffle for like 80 bucks, or get an armband. Atleast attach it to your body somehow. Your body will dampen most of the vibration.

Well, most of y'all have persuaded me to seek an alternative method, but at least it looks cool sitting there.

Why wouldn't you just put the pod in your jersey pocket?

Apart from the road shocks that the OP seemed to want to unfairly rely on Applecare (so now I know why the rest of us are paying a premium), at the first crash or major pot hole, the OP would have a smashed up iPod that Applecare wouldn't bother with.

I have never ridden with my ipod, but I have never known a reason not to put it in my jersey pocket. I store the Ipod (nano) in an Otterbox specifically fit for it. So sweat wouldn't be an issue.

I've never used it on the road, but when I'm on rollers, I merely clip my 2nd-gen Shuffle to the cable shrouding. Easy to control, secure, and it won't rattle the poor thing to a premature death.

Like I said, Im now not going to ride with it, I just thought it might be a decent idea, and if nothing else, it looks good sitting still more or less. And why dont I put it in my jersey? I just got into biking and I dont have one, the headphones dont reach from the baggy under my seat to my head, and I have no place to put it. My apologies for trying to fix a solution that arose for me.
