Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

did my new frame accomplish that?

I'm shocked..Today i climbed my usual short steep ride, 9 miles to the top 2400 ft higher than my house.
My fastest time till yesterday was 1.08'.32''. Today was the first time up there on my new BMC SSX and i scored 1.02'.46'' in a rather relaxed pace!! I couldn't believe my Edge displaying that, cause i've been workin' on breaking my previous record for 2 years in vein. I'm definitely NOT in my best shape (6 kg overweight) and in a very busy work schedule that leaves me only 5-7 hours/week to train. I'm forced to believe that this miracle today has something to do with my new bike which by the way is not way better than my previous Scott AFD comp, both al frames, same peripherals more or less...I've never been a sucker for upgrades, always thought of myself as a marketing victim fully aware of the meaningless of it all. But now i'm a believer, i ride an awesome, extremely responsive bike on which i will one day see a sub-hour climb to this summit. BMC thanks for making my week!

Don't worry. In a few weeks you'll be "used to it" and you'll be back to your 1.08 times.

Actually, maybe your "relaxed" pace had something to do with it. Maybe you were pushing too hard too early before, and the relaxed pace gave you a better warm-up and saved your strength for the really tough parts.

But, I'm glad you're enjoying your new ride. Who cares why you're faster. You're enjoying yourself and that's the main thing.

Unless your old bike is missing a pedal, that was all you. You might be letting yourself rest more, had a psychological advantage with a new bike, or whatever - but it was still you. Congrats.

+1. After enough sprints on my blingy new bike, I still want to puke, but I'm more motivated to reach that point on a new bike.

Let's see some pics!

Thanks for your remark, i've thought of that myself, maybe you have a point there. But it's sad to think my training tactics have been all wrong so far on this and (who knows) other routes.

Actually, I think the tape looks kinda cool. It oddly fits in with the whole Swiss design thing.

I think it was the tape that got you to the top in record time.
