Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Spinergy Xaero Lite vs . .

I have been reading non-stop for the past two days trying to spend the $200 plus that I will be receiveing for my bike. I have done some number crunching and I am thinking that I can add another $200 and get some decent wheels for around $400.

As of right now these are the options that I have found:

Spinergy Xaero Lite

Rolf Vector

I have done a lot of reading and I am leaning toward the Spinergy wheels, plus they would look sweet on my bike that already has red accents. Anyone have any thoughts about these wheels or wheels that I should be looking at?

Spinergy wheels have a poor reputation because of the poor company service. I don't know if the Xaero Lite's are durable or not but I wouldn't expect them to be aero because the spokes are way fat.

My buddy has two different sets of Spinergy wheels and has had problems with both. Needless to say I am not a fan.

You will get mixed reviews of the wheels about 60-40 those liking. Those who hate them.......hate them. Those who love them......love them. I purchased a set after doing extensive research and contacting the company ref. their past CS problems and fact folks complained of the mushiness of the wheel. After doing so I decided to purchase a set and am currently doing a Litespeed build with mine as you can see.

The company actually has gone with another hub system to correct an old problem as well. Once I get the bike built I will give you a ride report.

Just sitting on the bike and bouncing up and down they feel plenty stiff but only riding will tell me for sure.

Spinergy Xaero Lites with the custom yellow spokes.....took about three extra weeks to get........

I had pretty good customer service from Spinergy, when it came to trading in my old Rev-X's on some Xaero lites. The xaeros have been great wheels on my wife's bike, and they ride well on the chipseal.

I really like the look of the spinergy wheels and the proce is right, but several people have suggested the Fulcrum 5's. Are they a wheel that I should be looking at?

Of course I really know nothing about wheels, just that I NEED another set from my stock Bontrager SSR's. Any input would be great, if someone would like to mentor me in the art of choosing the perfect set of wheels for me, go for it.

I am going to stay away from saying one is better over the other. I chose the Xaero's due to the style and mainly lightweightness of the wheelset. I did do research to find reviews and contact the company to express my concerns. In all I chose to take a chance. My only other consideration was a set of Fulcrum 3's. No others were in my choices to choose from. I found the Xaero's for just under $500 delivered with getting the custom yellow spokes.

Like I said..............those that love them and those that hate them. I will have my bike built by the weekend and will give a ride report. But that is not saying that even if I like mine you will like them if you purchase them.

Everything in cycling is subjective from rider to rider. Trial and error from what I see.

For $400 I'd go custom built, you could probably get red Velocity Aeroheads if your set on red rims. Something like Aeroheads and Ultegra hubs would be fairly light and bombproof.
