Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best day of the year!

Being a northern latitude rider I just wanted to wish everyone a happy winter solstice
Starting tomorrow the days get longer (per se)!

I've noticed on my GPS that the sunset has been getting later the last few days already.

Sure could use some snow though.

Really!

Woohoo! More sunlight = more miles!

I'll have to celebrate in the form of the hijacked pagan winter solstice festival...

Hey, doc! Just because the days are getting longer doesn't mean you'll be getting more sunshine, 'ya know.

In New York, yes, the days start getting longer, but it keeps getting colder till late January. Is this correct?

Actually, the first day of summer (longest day) is the best day of the year.

Today is the best turning point of the year. Hurray for more sunlight.

You are correct but this year has been unusually warm - mostly high 40's or low 50's instead of high 20's and low 30's. Can't wait till after Christmas as Santa's bringing me a headlight so I can commute this winter
