I stand on the roller frame edge, swing my leg over, put butt on seat and roll on. Requires some tippy-toeing but works for me.

If your new at rollers and your going to give it a go without being next to a wall or table a helmet is not out of the question. I used a beanbag chair as a landing pad when I first learned the does and don't of rollers.

No I'm good once on them. No need for a helmet.

I am a n00b on them, but my setup is easy to mount (one side is a wall and the other is a Treadmill). This was the only real place I could set them up. I wear a helmet on them, but I have several things to hit if I miss my TM grab with my hand or if I would ride off.

I am wondering the same thing, While I won't call myself "good" at them yet I am pretty confident once I start going. It's the starting part I have to get down.

I haven't quite mastered this one either. Some say the easiest way is to have your bike in the big ring, with any mag unit's set to the lowest resistance, clip one foot in, and straddle the bike, then push off with that leg, and since you're in a big gear, you should get enough of a coast to get up on the seat and get going and clip in the other foot. In practice i usualy end up going "whoooooooooooaaaaoooo" after pushing off i can't seem to get my balance soon enough, and i land right back on my unclipped foot which was on the ground.

If anywhere in your roller learning curve is "lean on the 55 gallon fishtank", you should rethink the whole thing. Trust me.
