Astrale 8 Question
Was just installing my new Cateye Astrale 8 and the wire running to the back-wheel sensor broke while I was adjusting the wires and attempting to straighten out the slack. I am sure I am at fault here , but I just bought it this a.m at the Berkeley Performance Store. Is there a replacement kit available, or what should I do next?
BTW, is this common, as I was not pulling on the wire too hard?

I would take it back to the store and see if they will replace it, i imagine that they would give you a whole new unit. If sucky performance will not replace it for you I would contact Cateye directly and have them replace it for you.
I currently have a Astrale and I have never had a problem with it, seems to be the "perfect" cheap cycling computer!

Um ... you can try the performance store since they have a satisfaction guarentee, they might consider it a defect. Also, you can try Cateye Customer Support by phone, they might hook you up with a new one for the same reason (they're very reasonable at Cateye). Otherwise, a new wiring kit is about $15 bucks online.

Call cateye. They've been known to help out customers in similar situations. They sent me a new wiring harness when mine broke before its time.

Assuming the break isn't right at the sensor, find a buddy that's accomplished at soldering. Cateye wires are a little bit tricky to solder because the individual wires are coated with lacquer, and you have to burn that off before the solder will stick. Cover bare spots with shrink wrap tubing and seal the ends with RTV as necessary. I always have to lengthen my harnesses by adding a length of 2-conductor wire; so all of my harnesses have two blobs of shrink wrap somewhere in the middle.

if you happened to use an Amex, they often have coverage for this sort of thing.
