garmin 305 Edge tumbling down road....
just wanted to see if any of you had problems with the garmin vibrating loose and tumbling on road before i present my case to Garmin.
mine did and it took me forever to find it in the dry, dead tall grass. it has some damage to the screen.
also, what kind of battery life did you guys get when your unit was new? mine seems to be lacking. what do you do when the battery goes bad? can garmin open these things? is it like an IPOD? it seems sealed pretty good
anyone have experience with garmin customer service? it's not my fault the mount failed...and neither is the battery life on this brand new item.
do you think they might replace it?
thanks

I've gotten a couple 3 hr rides out of it without getting close to running out of battery. My unit did come with a dead cadence/speed sensor battery, but the retailer took care of that for me.
Mine has always stayed secure on the mount, even when I have to cross a lot of RR tracks. Do you hear a click when you put it on the mount? Maybe there's a problem with your mount not snapping onto the unit.
You can get screen covers from shieldzone.com. I have one for my nano. I haven't covered my Edge screen, though, because sometimes the glare can get you at certain angles (you see a rainbow distortion pattern on the plastic film over the screen). It certainly protects against scratches if you're worried about that in the future from causes not related to it spontaneously jumping off your bike .
I had emailed Garmin about my sensor in case the entire sensor unit was defective. I never heard anything back from them, but the retailer responded quickly and sent me a new battery. They also told me that if I got very little life out of that one that I should call them back and they'd work something out for replacement. Retailer customer service = great. Garmin's = nonexistant, but I didn't keep trying with them.

thanks for the info. well, the manual said about 12 hours of battery life and mine seemed close to dead around 6 hrs.
i know it was clicked in. it happened later in ride so it would have fell sooner if i didn't click it. i don't recall my hand even coming close to the release mechanism. it is on my stem. it happened so quick i couldn't catch it. the screen is actually fine. internally, the pixels got screwed up.
well, i guess no one else really had a problem. oh well, worth a try. i still don't think it was my fault. even if the mounting thing is faulty, that's not my problem. it's still a part of their system.

Ride it like you stole it
Regardless of what the manual says, there are many issues related to battery life. Visit https://forums.motionbased.com and do a search for "Battery Life" in the Edge forum and you will see pages of posts with complaints and suggestions on how to extend battery life.
