Is this a good deal/idea?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this a good deal/idea?

$650 2003 Specialized Allez Elite
It's used, but aparently it's in really good shape. I'm going to see if it fits in a few days. Assuming it does, is this appropriate for racing?

Thanks for your help.

I agree that that seems a little high for a 2003 bike with those wheels and components. $500 tops used.

Could you race it? Sure. Is it what would be considered a racing bike...? No. More like a good road/training bike.

You can do better. There is a guy on this town's CL selling an '06 R900 for $700, and I bought my TCR for $600 with full Ultegra and upgraded wheels. You just gotta look around and be patient when looking for a used bike, and make sure it fits you.
