Sidi and Speedplay
Just wanted to make sure before I purchase some speedplay zeros, can I use speedplay pedals on my Sidi shoes?

Yes.
The Speedplay cleats that come with pedals will have a small adapter plate (with shims for precise fit!) to make a three holer fit the Speedplay 4 holer.
Beware: the adapter plate can be overtorqued as the metal nuts are held by the plastic plate where the cleats attach.

may I suggest these as well...

they'll help prolong the life of your cleats, and make them easier to walk in. I use sidi genius 5's and speedplay zeros - real b*tch to walk in, but these help tremendously, and you're not self conscious of trying to avoid walking on the cleats.

In addition to the 4 bolt to 3 bolt plate, you may also need to use shims, depending on the amount of curvature in the shoe. The adapter plate needs to be flat on the shoe for the cleat to work best. The shims come with the cleats, so its no big deal.

My Speedplay cleats seem to work better with my newer Sidis than they ever did with my old Carnac shoes.

There's a trick to using the Sidi/Speedplay combo and losing most of the stack height increase that you gain from the adapter. On the bottom of the Sidis is a removable plate. Rather than mount the 4-hole adapter to this plate, remove the plate and mount the adapter to the recessed area. If you use LeWedges, you may have to trim them a little, but that's no problem.
Here's a pic of how mine looked:
It brings the stack height back down to about as low as you can get it without the pedal spindle rubbing the sole.

Yep ... I ride Speedplay X5's and Sidi Zetas. Great combo. And ABSOLUTELY get the cleat covers -- saves the cleat, and makes it so much easier to walk.

On the flip side, you'll like the carbon soles. I recently switched my Sidis for a pair of Specialized BG Carbon Pros. Very noticeable difference.

Removing the insert from the sole
Can anyone tell me how to remove the insert from the Millenium 2 sole on my Genius 5's so I can mount my Speedplay cleat lower?

How are they different? I have Shimano shoes that I will eventually replace with either Sidis or Specialized shoes. So, I would like to hear your opinion.

This illustrates a drawback of Speedplays in comparison to other pedals, such as Looks (1) The larger cleats make it more difficult to walk; (2) You are thus more obliged to bring along cleat covers; (3) The Speedplay cleat covers are likewise larger and heavier, and thus more irksome to have to carry.
If the pedal wasn't so fantastic I would certainly be using a different brand because they stink to walk in...

(edit: I think mine are the "Kool Covers," I'll have to check when I get home.)

I'm running Sidi Genius 5 and Speedplay Zero with no problem.
You will want to get covers for the cleats, but I go a step further and place a bead of ShoeGoo across the tops and bottoms of the metal plates (above and below the engagement area) including the screw heads for the metal plate. The ShoeGoo protects the screw heads from wearing down so much that you can't get them back out when it comes time to replace the cleats. It also makes them less slippery if you need to walk a few steps in them--but use the koolkovers for longer distances.
