Another dull question about installing my Flight Deck

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another dull question about installing my Flight Deck

OK, this is frustrating -- went to the shop today and swapped out the mounting kit for the correct 9-speed mounting kit for my 9-spd Ultegra. The buttons now match up properly. However, when the head unit (display) is mounted, it keeps flickering. I tried removing the L side and R side buttons individually and 1 at a time, and no change whether they are installed or not. It's when the head unit is snapped onto the bracket that I get the flickering. The buttons don't work when they are installed.

I set the bike no. to #2 and set it up properly first. This is my 10-spd head unit, and the shop says there is no other HU....that it should work with the 9-spd mounting kit. (of course, i am well aware about de-programming the 10th cog to make it a 9-spd display).

any solutions to this erratic behavior?

Perhaps the head unit is making intermittent contact with the base?

Try cleaning all the contacts by rubbing with with a rubber eraser and checking that the pointy parts on the head unit are making solid contact with the contacts on the base unit.

I would think if you only get this problem when the head unit is mounted on the bracket, there's a problem with either the bracket (maybe its wiring?) or the interface (contact between the two).

Maybe you got a faulty mounting kit...

there are little stickers that fit under the contacts in the hoods to keep them pressed togeather. If you read the direction manual you'll see a picture of what they look like.
