Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Air Travel

Hi! I might be flying to California in March and want to take mine and my dad's bike along with us for riding. My question is are there any bike boxes/cases that anybody recommends for air travel? Also are there any 2 bike bike cases? I don't want to spend alot on the case/box because im not sure how much id be using it in the future.

Any Suggestions Appreciated
Thank You

edit - Not sure on 2 bike cases

I asked a similar question in a thread recently, this year but I plan on 3-4 air trips:

https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycling/259382-bike-case-hard-soft.html

If I were not planning on more than one trip then I would go to the LBS get me an empty bike box and pack it all myself.

I don't live in the US but I understand that you can box your bike and UPS it to your destination for a good price. Enjoy your trip!

Trico Iron Case is a very good one. Flew to France with 2 bikes, no problems. It's also one of the cheaper ones.

If you don't want to spend much, just go with a cardboard bicycle box from your LBS. That's what I've used for the flights I've taken over the past few years, and I've flown both domestically and internationally.

Also, I don't think you really want a 2-bike case. Hauling around one bicycle in a box is enough of a hassle without doubling the size of the box!!! I also doubt the baggage handlers would be too impressed with that. Pack them separately and keep them each as small as you can.

Bike Pro USA Double Race Case. https://www.bikeprousa.com/dbl_racec...3412.27.55.210

I have a Bike Pro USA race case and Bike Pro USA Tandem Race case. Both are great. Have flown overseas with both with zero damage. The metal frame that the bike frame bolts to gives it great protection.

I haven't used the double case so I can't vouch for it. However, I could see some advantages. $625for a case is a lot, but it's the equivalent of 2 $315 cases.

Also I'm guessing that the airlines would only charge you one $80 bike fee, instead of two, but that's a guess.
