Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've considered getting one to keep the sweat out of my eyes on hot days. I keep my head shaved and sweat is a problem in the summer. I don't give a rat's *ss if anyone thinks it's gay or not. If it helps me....I'll wear it.

Somewhere on gayforums.net there's a thread that goes "I just shaved my legs and got some tight lycra shorts. Do you think it would make look like a cyclist or not?"

Are you sure it's not just an honest question to improve his dating odds? Must be confusing when all those guys with "Assos" on their clothes just ignore him...

+1 on the headband. Doesn't get that cold here to need complete head cover (then, again, I have a head of hair), but the summers are wickedly hot and humid. And I can use the headband when I do play tennis.

try a proper cycling cap sometime. they fit quite nicely under your helmet, look (IMNSHO) a lot less silly than any variant on a bandanna, and even give you an emergency sun shade when you're out riding at dawn/dusk.

+1 Those CoolMax Spin Cycle caps are even better than the traditional cotton cycling caps, but don't look as cool (or wacky depending on your taste).

As a baldie, I'll say some sort of head covering is essential under a helmet. Not a "do-rag" per se, but any one of the dozens of elegant solutions available to address various needs of moisture wicking, sun exposure, cold, etc.

As to questions of sexuality in regards to a head cover: That's between me and my wife. The rest of the world can make juvenile assumptions at their own peril.

I always wear a Headsweats or similar doo-rag. I have warm ones for the winter and cool ones for the summer. I sweat as much as anybody but I see guys at the end of a ride squeeze their helmet against their forehead and then watch like a half liter of liquid come oozing out of their pads - pretty impressive, but GROSS. My Headsweats keep the sweat out of my eyes, off my glasses, and out of my helmet - they work and come in cool designs. If you're gay you can probably find them with purple triangles and rainbow stripes.

What if you don't wear doo rags and ARE gay? Aparently that'd cause mass confusion.
