Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In your opinon, the best 2,000.00 or less road bike?

Hello,

Just looking for opinions and exposure to completes, with either alum/cf frames or full cf frames, that come in at 2 grand or less. I'm aware of a few and leaning towards the Giant TCR C3 but I would really enjoy reading about your experience sin this price range.

Cheers,
JB

How 'bout a $2.99 bike and a set of Zipps?

(You'll have to excuse us. It's the offseason.)

Are you buying locally? If so, what brands do you have available?

Why would anyone spend LESS than $2K on a road bike?? Even more puzzling, why would they ADMIT to that HERE of all places????!??

Oh what a tangled web we winter weenies weave. Say THAT 3x fast while doing your sprints today.

Here's a couple options:

https://www.leaderbikestore.com/pd_ld_796r2.cfm

The 796R full Carbon Fiber with full Dura Ace is $1,998.... a really sweet bike IMO.

The Trek 5000 with 105 is a good CF bike also for $1,950

I've been wondering about the Leader 796R frame. It is somewhat heavy for a CF frame bike considering my 06 Lemond Zurich weighs about the same and is carbon and steel. When I mean I have been wondering about it, I mean how it is going to hold up long term.

I like the Specialized Roubaix at that price. Full 105 10speed group including the cranks and brakes which are all to often swapped out for other cheaper parts on many bikes. Also has traditional wheels built with Mavic Open Pro rims. Just a great, solid performing bike IMO.

+1 to fit being most important. There is no way to spend that much money on a mainstream road bike and end up with anything other than a great bike.

You need to decide double, triple, or compact. Everything else really doesn't make much difference. You should be able to get into 105 or Ultegra, maybe D/A, or SRAM Force for that kind of money, all of which are awesome.

No not my first bike at all, just a major upgrade based on the amount of riding I've been involved in as of late. I agree I would like to see a full 105 bike for the price, double chainring. Lots of hill climbing and the descents that come with it.

This is the best answer, it's trite but true. Consider your body proportions, short torso = short top tube. Long torso = long top tube.

Why get a non-Cervelo when you can have one of the best bikes ever made for that price?
No other bike comes even remotely close to the Cervelo Soloist Team in that range.

$1999 price (Ultegra) at your door (no tax/free shipping)

This is a bike you can probably sell in 10 years for more than what you bought it for.
It will survive any crash. It will increase your sex appeal. It will send much needed American cash to our friends up in Canada.

It also floats uphill.

in all seriousness, we just bought my wife a cf lemond with ultegra/105 for under 2k and it seems like a heck of a deal.
of course, the reason she went with it was it fit her so well.

A Cervelo Team Soloist can move up hills under its own power while carrying a rider. You might just have to see it to believe it.

The worst thing the OP could do is buy a non-Cervelo in this price range.

It's sort of like someone offering you a Formula 1 car for $20,000 and you opt for the Honda.
