Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Me, Floyd, and Jack....

Last night I had the pleasure of meeting Floyd Landis at his FFF fundraiser here in
Brooklyn. In addition to being responsible for the most thrilling moments in professional
cycling history, he was entertaining, and seems to be a genuinely nice guy.

In honor of his Jack Daniel's-fueled vicotry during stage 17 last year, I had him autograph
my bottle of whiskey. My friends and I have attempted to replicate this tactic, but have had
drastically different results.

During the town-hall style discussion, I was lucky enough to get a chance to ask him a
very timely question, that I felt really got to the core of the issue:

How long is the hair on his legs?

Floyd was kind enough to lift his pants leg and reveal that there is in fact growth... I guess
he really won't be racing professionally this year. If there is a more accurate indicator of
this fact, I am not aware of it.

For those of you that weren't there, the slideshow presentation was compelling/shocking/
infuriating. The fact that this case is still on the table makes no sense to me, and judging
by the outpouring of support I witnessed last night, I am not alone.

FREE FLOYD!!!

I told him I would only open the bottle in his presence, and offered to pour us a couple of drinks (i even had cups!!)... however, he politely declined... might have had something to do with the 200 people behind me in line.

Priceless. Great idea for the autograph and kudos to Floyd for being willing to sign it.

Way too cool!

I hate to see that he's agreed to not race this year.

Floyd admitted last night that it was unlikely that he would race professionally at all this year. He stated that if he tried to prepare his defense and train to race, he wouldn't do a very good job of either one.

However, the AFLD does not have any power over any other governments and, should Landis be cleared, the UCI would then review the case and may allow him to compete in major races outside of France such as the Giro d’Italia and the Spanish Vuelta."
I thought that WADA rules were he is "tried" by USADA and if WADA disagrees with USADA's decision then WADA can bring the case to the World Court.

The French can keep him out of the TdF for two years even if he is exonerated by both WADA and USADA?

Don't drink it. Don't ever open that bottle. Or, at least wait until after the hearings. If he's found guilty, as expected, that bottle is priceless

Yep. And IIRC, the two years clock hasn't started ticking until the French find him guilty. So, kiss 3 TDFs good bye if he is found guilty in France this summer.
