Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Urgent: Do Not Upgrade Garmin Training Center To 3.1.4 Or Above

All:

DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR GARMIN TRAINING CENTER TO VERSION 3.1.4 OR ABOVE.

I recently changed computers and copied my riding history file to the new PC. I also downloaded and installed the new version of Garmin Training Center which is 3.2.1. Everything worked great, and all data came through.

After riding a few times and uploading ride data to the computer, I noticed that all new ride information was there, but previous graphical information (a map of the route, plus graphs of heartrate, speed, cadence, etc.) had disappeared. I called Garmin tech support this morning and was floored when they told me this:

Yes, there is a known problem with users who have upgraded to Training Center version 3.1.4 or above, in that ALL PREVIOUS MAP AND GRAPHICAL INFORMATION IS LOST. No patch exists to correct the problem, and they do not know if restoring previous versions of Training Center will work. They suggested that I view ride information using MotionBased, but that service either 1) Stores data only on the most recent rides; or 2) Requires a fee-based subscription.

In my case, I have the older version of Training Center on my old computer, but I haven’t yet looked into taking all ride history on the new computer and moving it back, and I don’t have time to go down that road with Garmin tech support right now.

No warning appears on the Garmin Edge 305 page, nor on their "Updates & Downloads" page.

I was told that complaints should be sent to: cartography@garmin.com

That sucks. Sorry.

I just use Motion Based, anyway. If you create a second account, you can log in to it and search for rides under your other username and see all of your history that way. I know it's round-about, but it works.

yes, the problems start with 3.2.1 and it is more than missing data. If you try to download multiple courses to the Edge it will stop communicating with TC. You will still be able to use it with SportTracks or MB just not with TC unless you do a hard reset. Already discussed at the MB forums.

Okay....the OP stated to not upgrade to 3.1.4 or above.........sounds like they meant to include 3.1.4 as well.

Toss it out of a second story window onto the concrete or run over it with your car.

Seriously, POWER, MODE and RESET all at once.

A new version of TC is now available. 3.2.2 is now up on Garmin's site.
