Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tight link in chain

I have a tight link in my chain, is there any way to fix it or do I need a new chain?

I had some issues with a shimano chain and their "connector pin" as have quite a few others I have talked to. Make life easy, pull that link out and put one of these in https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...slisearch=true.
Not sure if you are 9 or 10 speed but they make em for both.

Good luck,

Kris

What's with the pin - it's different than all the others. It's likely the connector pin.

If you don't have a master quick connect link, I would put one in - removing the offensive pin and link. If you already have one, you could switch out the pin or just try lubing it and working it out with your hands.

Or you could just get a new chain.

Just a couple drops of oil will do the trick (one of each side). Let it penetrate for a few seconds, then spin it around.

Try bending the chain side to side (not the way it normally bends) gently. this and a drop of oil works for me.

Use your chain tool from the other side and push just slightly. It will release the tension. That's what Shimano tells you to do in the instructions I think.

+2. This is how you're supposed to loosen a link. And remember GENTLY!
