Life circumstances directly relate to cycling

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Life circumstances directly relate to cycling

When you see a guy in a Scott jersey later today, lookin' sharp while riding an absolute PIECE from the 80's, know that it is me. You see, I normally ride my Scott Speedster, but the real wheel is no longer true. At the same time, I talked to this girl again (long story, I love her!)... so now I must release massive amounts of energy. Last time her and I talked I broke my 3-year record. Now I will go for the same record on a heavier-than-an-elephant bike. Interesting how life experiences can impact my cycling. Any similar stories?

Oh, that Denali is looking pleasant considering the bike I am about to ride.... Wal-Mart is 1 mile away.... (Well this girl has completely clouded my judgement now)

8.6 miles in (about, don't remember actual time) 26 minutes. Hilly course. I have a thread about it somewhere.

funny, I was just having some relationship anguish and was relaying to a friend how it might suck, but its great fuel for the cycling fire. And considering I need to overhaul my roadbike, it shall be done on the heavy fixie.
Cycling is all about suffering LA once said, it helps to just embrace the rest of your suffering and use it. And riding makes everything disappear

The exgf/FB/wtf ever talked me into getting a bike in the first place. She wanted to start exercising with me and can't really jog because of high arches. I wanted to get her in shape so I started looking at bikes with no intention of spending over $200... that changed with in a week when I realized you can't get anything decent at that price. So another week passes, alot of research and rides, and I've got a Trek 2200 on layaway with a rental Trek 1200 going towards my lawaway. (going on a trip for 3 weeks so why have it sit at home while I'm gone?)

The kicker is, I don't think she's gonna follow through with riding! We went around a lake that's about 10 miles and she was strugglin the whole way and having to stop a bunch. I was encouraging, but frustrated. Her wonderful Sora equipped bike was hoppin on the cassete b/c the RD was F'd.

Pisses me off but atleast I've got a new hobby I enjoy.

From another forum, seems perfectly appropriate here:

A few years ago I was splitting my time between swimming and racing bikes. I was on a swimming scholarship so, while swimming paid the bills, cycling was fun. At my last swimming meet of the season I made two dumb mistakes in my best event and didn't qualify for finals. I was furious with myself. My coach wasn't happy either. I went home for the summer wondering if I had just blown my ride and KNOWING that I had wasted a chunk of my season. I entered an individual TT two days later and used it as penance. I blasted right through my pain threshold and severly punished myself through the race. I didn't win, but I did faint just after the finish. The EMT that came to check me out asked me how I felt. I said, "Paid up." My friend (a shrink) told me that this story worried him. I told him that I was surprised that the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) doesn't document "crushing expectations."

Yeah, mental challenges are just as severe as physical challenges. If you experience an event that can push you past the mental barriers, you can really push your body to its limit. When this happens, I try to "record" the sensations in my legs so I can reproduce them when the mental barrier is back in place -- it can help to push through it again.

Getting drunk and posting on BF is still better than getting drunk and calling ex girlfriends.

But I wasn't drunk!

I need leg warmers. It's too cold to ride

I wonder if I would do more damage to my wheel if I rode the trainer instead? The rear is out of true.
