Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Zipp durability experience, opinions?

I'm about to order a high end wheelset for racing only. I'm thinking Zipp 343s (330 front with 440 rear).

Please give opinions on durability etc. based on first-hand experience either from personal use or a teammate's, or friend's experience.

I used my team's Zipp disc in a TT event and loved it. But it's hard to know from one race how durable a racing wheel this brand can produce. So, tell my about your Zipp experiences.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

I'll take that as a negative. Thanks for the implication.

Nah I'm joking, they're fine, when was the last time you heard about a catastrophic failure?

LOL slvoid.

Zipps are great. Do you have a credit card or fund specifically for emergencies?

330's the rim model, 303 would be the wheelset, methinks. Did you mean a 303 in the front and 404 in the back?

If so, check you PM's, man. I may have something for you.

I ride 303's as a daily training and race wheelset. I've got maybe 3,000 miles on them and have never touched them. They are still perfectly true. I've heard older models don't have dependable hubs but mine are great.

If you can't train on them because you afraid to ruin them, then I think that tells you all you need to know about durabilty. They look great and ride great, but I would hate to spend that much money on wheels that I had to save for races.

I used Zipp 404s last season, and logged 5,000 road miles on them. Never had a single problem. IMHO, they're everyday wheel solid.

Thanks for the responses. I did mean 303s and 404s. The feedback from locals is that they are good wheels, with excellent bearings. Thanks for all of your input thus far, whether joking or otherwise. It's down to deciding 303s, 404s, or the combo 343.

343 seems nice if you have a lot of cross wind.
