Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Woohoo, I got sunburned today!

We had exceptional weather is NorCal today. The forecast was for a high of 73 deg., so I planned a longer than usual club ride so that we could take advantage of it.

I rolled out the door this morning at 0830, not wearing vest, arm warmers, knee warmers, toecovers, or long-fingered gloves. The ride, as advertised, was 67 miles and about 6,000 ft of climbing. Combined with my ride to and from the ride start location, I managed 80 miles.

The sun was out and there was not a cloud in the sky. We rode over to the coast the easier way and returned the harder way - two medium climbs on Stage Road, a longer and steeper climb up Haskins Hill from Pescadero, and finally up West Alpine. Had a blast descending Page Mill! Caught up to one car about halfway down and he was kind enough to pull over and let me pass. Finally, to top it all off, there was a nice tail wind from Los Altos back to Cupertino.

When I got back and took my shower, I realized that I had gotten a sunburn of my arms!

Tomorrow cooler weather will be back and we're going to head up to the city to watch the ToC Prologue, so I'm glad I got the big miles

I had to ride my trainer cause the roads were too snowy/icy to ride outside but it got above 30 at least. I can't wait for spring.

Ya, I got pretty burnt at our track race at UCSB today. It was a beautiful day to be in Cali today (although a little too warm for a 2 mile race, but I won't complain)

I rode the same area today, but a different route. We suffered on out 88 mile and 7900ft ride. Beautiful day and lots of riders on the roads. We saw team Liquigas go by, and ran into Credit Agrecole twice. I probably butchered the spelling of the team names but Im ttoo tired to look it up.
