Anybody tried this? Motion Lingo ADEO GPS
I was browing around on the Performance Bike site and run across this thing. It's a GPS based device that interfaces with an MP3 player (Or regular headphones) and gives you realtime audible data on your rides (or runs or whatever) and lets you upload the data to their website afterwards for viewing.
While not cycling specific (No cadence or even heart rate), this is actually pretty cool if you're a multisport athlete.
Here's a link to the features page:
https://www.motionlingo.com/dsp_adeo.cfm
And here's a link to the website demo for uploading your actvities.
https://www.motionlingo.com/motiontrak/
I dont think this will replace my Edge 305 but for multisport people, this really looks pretty interesting, especially being able to get audible updates during your activity (Only 1 earphone, tho so as not to bring the safety nazis in).
Anybody tried it?

I am bumping this since I find it interesting also, and wondered if anyone has used it. $20 cheaper than Performance at www.geomangear.com

There was a short review of the Adeo in Fredcast #43; David seemed to like it.
That's about all I know about the thing, but I'd also like to hear more.

I actually ended up getting one of these. Ive only done a couple of rides with it. Ive found the GPS reception to be a little lacking compared to the Garmin.. the unit lost 1.5 miles compared to the Garmin over a 22 mile ride. I plan to do a full review on the unit once I get a little more time to play with it.

Unless this unit has a SiRF Star III chipset, then there's no possible way that it would be able to come close to the reception of a garmin. I tried to do a quick search on what chipset this uses and couldn't seem to find any information - makes me doubt that the ADEO uses a SiRF III since it's a big deal to have one. The general rule about any consumer GPS being sold today is to not bother unless it's SiRF III.

I sent their sales team an email asking specifically what chipset they use. if they respond I will post it here.

Well, in the unit's defense, the rides Ive done have so far been on a greenway but this time of year with no leaves on the trees, there really isnt much foilage to block reception. I'm going to use the unit on the road this week and see how it does.
Couple of notes
1 - The unit is relatively easy to configure and the software is well laid out.
2 - The unit does work as advertise with giving you updates.. it lowers the volume of the music and gives you updates then raises the music volume back to the previous level.
3 - The calorie count is nowhere close but given it uses no kind of physical input, I didnt really figure it would be.

Sunday night @ 11:53 is an odd time to get an email from MotionLingo, but here is what they just sent me:
So it looks like if I want to get one of these I will wait until May.
The current ADEO model uses the SSII chipset. That same chipset found in the Garmin 201, 301 products.
Our next generation device which comes out in May, has the SSIII chipset i.e. same chipset found in the Garmin 205, 305.
However, because of the placement of our geo-helix antenna (top of the unit) (among other design differences) we are testing at even higher level of accuracy than benchmarks we have found in the past.
Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
