Could it be the heat?
This last week I haven't been able to do anything on my bike. I went out Sunday for my usual 25 mile ride, and my average speed was off by about 3mph. This was the first time I had not improved, the ride before Sunday I did a personal best, 24mph over the first 10 miles then 21mph thereafter.
Then yesterday I went out and turned around after 3 miles. I felt like I was going to die, then the same thing happened today! The only thing I can come up with is the heat. I only ride 3 to 4 days a week, so I know I am not overtraining. Its only in the high 70's, but I'm in Texas so it feels a lot worse.
I'm just not moving to Colorado soon enough! I hate Texas!

Its because you"re a p***y. Just kidding . Could be a million things which I'm sure will all soon be listed here. Most likely wind direction or speed has changed (happens seasonally). Even slightest bit of wind can impact your performance.

that's a HUGE drop from 25 miles to 3 just from heat. and it's not even that hot. when you say you felt like you were going to die, were you out of breath? muscles sore and burning? both?

I just didn't have any endurance. I was still able to sprint fast but could not maintain anything about 20mph. I tried riding it out but never was able to get into a rythm.
Feeling like I was going to die was an overstatement. I ride because I enjoy being out of the house out in nature, and I wasn't having any fun so I turned around. I could have easily kept riding, but not at the pace I wanted.
I have a real high tolerance for cold weather. On a couple occasions this year I went riding in shorts and short sleeve shirt when it was in the 30's.

70 degrees in February and you're complaining? Doubt you'll get much sympathy on this forum.
My guess is: hydration, food, or wind. Did you get rip-roaring drunk the night before?
