Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First official ride of the season.

I'm a cold weather weenie. There, that's out of the way.

I just went on my first real ride of the year, and it was awesome. I've logged about 40 miles of random commuting here and there so far this year, but I donned the spandex and caged the water bottle and hit the road today for a nice 67 degree 16 mile ride. Short, yes, but my first ride of the season. It was beautiful.

And thank God for rollers. Last year I kicked off the year with averages around 16mph. Blah. Today: 18. That's about what I ended with last year. No, it's not fast, but I lost nothing over the winter. In the past, I've pretty much started from scratch every spring.
