Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Aloha lost his cotton-picken' mind!!!

All, pls forgive Aloha...today he got the nod from Mrs. Aloha and he went out and did the undoable...after thinking the the unthinkable....Aloha bought a Mountain Bike.

Yes, that's right and a Specialized at that....

Aloha is the proud new owner of a Specialized HardRock Sport MTB....

Took it out on a little trail on base and absolutely love it.

Please do not banish Aloha from Road Cycling forums, it's still my first love but Aloha's gotta admit, he's diggin' the MTB.

Does anyone still have love for Aloha.........assuming there was love in the first place!!!!

Right, well off to MTBR you go. And don't come back until you've picked at least 10 knock down-drag out flame wars with those guys about how dorky they look w/ their helmet visors...

Are you talking about the trails out by the ponds? I used to ride those during lunch to keep my sanity when I lived on base.

Who sold you the bike? Is colin still the manager at the kailua store?

Congrats on the buy-welcome to the darkside!

Those are the ones....not very long and it seemed I had a headwind both ways...but that's SOP for this time of year anywhere on the island I think.

I think he is, not sure of his name but the guy I bought the bike was a young guy, newbie to the store I think, but he was good to go and kicked in the 10% for military so that was cool.

May the razor sharp volcanic rock rip the knobs off your tires. Pele is very angry with you. You must offer up your ride bike to someone worthy...(what size is it?) or lava flows will sear you and drive you into the sea, where you'll become Spam misubi for an 18 foot tiger shark.

Haha, I used to hate those headwinds...but I'd take those over my current SOP....snow for the last 4 months straight. I regret all the crap I talked about paradise.

Hey, did I ever tell you that General Hummer's son works as a mech at the honolulu store? He's a mountain biker too, you should track him down.

Oh and did you race last years MAG-24 Sprint triathlon?

I didn't know that about the Gen's son. That's pretty interesting.

I didn't do the MAG one but did Lanikai last year....the run bike run b/c of the contaminated water!!!

Not sure if I'm gonna give Lanikai a go or not. Just found out I'm gettig orders to 6th MCD at Parris Island so we're pretty psych'ed about getting back on the east coast.

Someone needs to get out more. There are a LOT of threads about shaving legs in MTB forums too. Most are racers that spout the same reasons as roadies.

Just because we are mountain men, doesn't mean we are hairy.
