Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Show me your Calfee Bamboo Bike?

I'd like some feedbacks on these frames. I'm in the market for one and ebay has one my size.

Always been intrigued by that frame - I've heard that it's similar in strength to Carbon Fibre...but unfortunately, can't provide any hands on feedback.

This isn't mine, but it needs to be seen. I did talk with the Calfee reps at Interbike. I'd buy a Bamboo, if I had the room.

They make a Hemp fiber seat cluster, but I'm not sure about the lugs.

i'm pretty sure they're hand wrapped cf lugs. i saw one at Sundance Cycles in Agoura CA that was someones ride. Calfee had a couple at Nahbs, the bullhorn, and one with a more realistic set up. the bamboo tubes they use are very wide and while you'll certainly be the only kid on the block with one, they're not what i'd call good looking. once the novelty wears off, i'd think you'd be wishing yuou got something different. maybe not, and if its a 5th or 6th bike, why not?

They sure are cool bikes. But unlike carbon you just have to be careful when storing them next to livestock :-)

Steel is susceptible to water/rust. Bamboo?? Termites!
Make sure you spray down your frame with Raid very few weeks.

I'm especially curious about the combustibility of this frame. I'll probably be an a-hole to all cigarrette smokers cruising around in this frame.

Outside starbuck's

Me: would you mind smoking somewhere else?
some dude: why? This is outside public area.
Me: how would you feel if I give you second hand cancer from bamboo fume?

calfee's are crappy bikes? i don't think so. i don't own one and don't really plan to, but they've been doing carbon longer than almost anyone, and i've seen lots of thei bikes in person. you may not like their look, but they are not crappy bikes, that is for sure.
