Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My wife finally getting a road bike!

I have finally convinced my wife to get a road bike - she was always concerned about comfort and I was relieved when the owner of our local bike store said that if u get the fit right, even an 80 year old grandmother can be comfortable on a road bike! It was great to hear that from him since as any of you who are married understand "helping" your spouse/partner can be a very delicate situation - "do these jeans make me look fat" - warning warning!

Our LBS owner recommended the Jamis Quest WSD. Having ridden on steel for years before moving on to Ti, I think it is a good choice for comfort. And I assume we will work on getting the fit right. The cost is about $1400.

Do any of you have another recommendation for similar price range? That provides better value? Again, I assume we will figure out the right fit - either on WSD or regular, but is this the best bang for the buck - or should I say $1400 bucks!

thanks all

my wife just got a lemond, they have some nice wsd frames, and one of the bikes with a 50cm tt and 700c wheels. it fits her so much better than her previous two bikes and it's caused her to want to ride a lot more, which is a good thing.

Did she get an aluminum, carbon or combination frame. I think my wife would find aluminum too rigid and uncomfortable; and carbon is probably out of my price range - $1000 - $1500.

thanks!

If you've found at a choice that she's happy with, why do you want to stir the pot?

thanks!
she went with the full carbon frame. we were gonna go with the alu model, but it needed to be ordered, and the carbon frame was there. she test rode it and loved it and that was that. the complete bike, with mostly ultegra and a compact crank (swapped from the stock triple) was just under 2000. (i think with taxes it was a little more). she would have been fine on the aluminum ride, i think in a tiny 46cm frame they're all pretty stiff, but the carbon frame is pretty damn nice looking.
