Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

+1 for cheap aluminum cages.

I don't know of a carbon cage available that can be snugged up before a race or loosened to fit a giant gatorade bottle from a quick shop in BFE with a press of the hand.

I bought some Nitto R cages. Definately over-priced but they are shiny stainless steel and hold a bottle well.

King Cage stainless. Tubular stainless steel. Look great, work perfectly, cost $15, outlast your bike!

I use several different types and like them all. Selection criteria was based on weight and aesthetics and all 3 weigh ~ 28 g each:

Tacx Tao Carbon - easiest for removing / inserting the bottle and holds bottle well. Also works very well on compact frame geometries on the seat tube where clearances might be tight. For my frame had to shave off a portion of the cage with a Dremel tool to clear the front deraileur clamp but the cage is still solid / no problems.

Bontrager XXX lite - works well / matches my stem and handlebars on my Serotta

King Ti - just got these and use them on my cross frame. Like them alot ... do not mark bottles and guaranteed for life. Surprisingly light ... given it is a metal cage you expect it to weigh more when you pick it up. I try not to ride with a camelback whenever I can on the cross bike and will remove the cages for races. Extremely secure in terms of holding the bottle.

Would definately not use aluminum due to bottle marking / aluminum residue.

Easy, nothing beats Ti for bikes and cages

King Ti cage on Ti frame.....

And to those that say aluminum is all you need, I cant argue much...almost the same thing, but Ti is Ti............................

Elite Cuissi Gel. They were pretty cheap. I think they're heavy. I don't lose bottles over the cobbles.

Elite Cussi in here, old style and they look like Sh**t in my bikes, but the model works fine, have not find anything that works better neither cheap than those ones.

Tried the specialized ones and they suck. My bottles did not fit, or fit so tight that i cant take the bottle's out.

I like my carbon cages from Performance. Not as expensive, very light and seem to do ok. I have the Alpha (first picture) on my Cannondale and the Theta on my Cervelo.

My problem with my Bontrager alums is, well, they've fatigued, I guess, and have gotten to where they loosen up minutes after I re-tightened them. I've tried the plastic not-fully closed ones and they break, which is why I went with the full wrap alum Tacx or whatever. They'll be here by the time I get back from Toronto! WOOT!

+1 On Bontrager Race Lites

I especially love them because of the variety of colors they came in, but i chose the white because it somehow matched the pearl coat on my bike.

I'm trying to find white cages for my Race Red/White '10 CAAD9-4.

Has anyone tried these? Is the white... white? The one above does look pearly as the poster said.

I use these too. They're the classic style so they don't mesh so well with the modern bike design. ~72 grams each.

I like the specialized ribcage pros. They are just like the s-works except not carbon, I have never dropped a bottle and they dont cost very much.

I use two Elite Macia bottle cages. They have a nice snug fit on all of my bottles and they look great. Made of fiberglass, which makes them "better" (?)
These are what they look like, but mine don't have the fake CF paint.

I just use some cheap Minoura cages. Made of aluminum so they're durable, and they come in carp-loads of colors.

Bontrager race lites work.. $15/peice, plastic, light enough, and hold the bottle.
