    Friend Hooked Me Up!!

Friend of mine is moving out of town for a new job and was cleaning out his garage and such, and found what he called "Some old bike break levers" and wanted to know if I could use them. Well I thought about it for about .0000001 seconds cause you can never have too many bike parts

Well he dropped them on my desk a little while ago and they are actually Ultegra STI 9-Speed Levers (ST-6510) never even been used. I told him he could sell them for some decent money, but said I could keep them.

So here are my plans, I would like to move them to my Trek 1000, but to do so I'm correct in needing to replace the front and rear derailers, and the cassette. I can keep my Stock Triple Crank correct? I was thinking I could probably find some 105 stuff on ebay and that will work with the STI.

the only thing you really would HAVE to change to go to 9 speed is your chain and cassette, your sora RD would work might take some extra fidgiting with though.
Ivan Basso can really climb. It is being true, he is not having to carry the extra added weight of a male penis, but he is still a good climber.

Congrats! Nothing has to good during the upgrade besides the cassettte and chain.

But if you still have a '2200' FD, I'd suggest you take this as an opp. to grab a Tiagra one off ebay to match the RD (or a nicer one). For example, there's was a Tiagra triple FD on the Portland, OR craigslist for $11 this week. Also look at Kool Stop pads or a quick/cheap caliper upgrade (maybe the 105's on Nashbar?).

    Enjoy!

Yeah, I don't know exactly which year they changed things up. But my '00 Trek 1000 orginally came with Sora front and rear. From '03 or '04 forward, they've come with upgraded Tiagra RD's and downgraded 2200 FD's.

it's actually two bikes in a box. hard to tell from that angle. it's just stuff that has fallen victim to evolution at one time or another. i plan to use all of the ultegra9 stuff once i find a beater frame to put it on. believe it or not, that's only part of it. i also have a 5000 OCLV frame(painting), a lugged steel centurion frame(undecided), various forks, bars and stems. enough parts to build three sets of wheels. it's actually kind of scary to look at.

by the way, OP, that's a hell of a find!

Looks like the first sliding drawer at my house....the only problem is that there is more than just one drawer. A lot more.
