Getting ready to buy a new helmet. How many of you ride with visors?

If you look around you'll notice that visors are found mostly on cheaper helmets and mountain biking helmets. There are, of course, some exceptions. If you're really concerned about fashion, stay away from them.

If you are riding in the drops (or even the hoods, depending upon how low your bars are compared to the saddle), a visor can block your vision or give you a stiff neck from having to look up. For those times that a visor comes in handy (rain, glare, etc.), flip your cycling cap.

No visor. I've heard that it's a safety issue for riding on pavement. I don't know if this is true, but I know that it is definitely a huge OCP violation.

I have often wondered what purpose the visors really do serve MTB'ers. I mean, I had one for my MTB, and it didn't really keep the sun out of my eyes or anything. At least, not as well as a ball cap anyway. I have a visor on my ski/snowboarding helmet, but it sticks out much further, and actually does a good job of keeping down the glare. But, for cyclists (even MTB'ers arguably), the visor really has no purpose, since we wear sunglasses anyway.

Visor.
I ride where the sun is always very intense. The reduced glare on sunglasses really helps improve contrast.
Some folks suggest a cap under helmet, but that just cuts down on ventillation/cooling.
Even in drops visor doesn't block view. If it did/does, many can be angled upward.
The Giro Pnuemo (a road marketed helmet) comes stock with visor for some model years (I think only 2005 or 6 it didn't)

Road bike at 18+ mph + cross wind + visor == sail on top of your head. Not a pleasant feeling. No visor.

I use a cycling cap under the helmet because it keeps sweat (mixed with sun screen) from running in my eyes. If I need a visor (usually because I'm caught in heavy rain), I'll spin the cap around and use that visor. Sunglasses for sun glare. If it's so dang hot that my head is overheating because of the cap, I probably shouldn't be out riding in that heat anyway.

when i was shopping for my first road helmet, i was told that mountain bikers use the visor instead of eyewear because their eyewear may effect their depth perception because of their surroundings, but i don't know how accurate that is because i don't mountain bike...

I like visors. Shields the eyes from sun much more effectively than glasses when the sun is on the horizon, but also it casts a wind shadow that can help keep stuff off your face. Especially when it's windy and there's lots of junk in the air (dirt, sand, sleet, whatever), that's nice.
I normally ride in the drops. I can't say I've ever thought my vision was impeded. If you need to see further, adjust the visor or tilt your head up.

My preferred Giro Indicator helmet is $30, has a visor, and has more than a couple of vents. Usually the visor falls off within a year and I keep using it.

Visor is great for mountain biking. Not so great for road biking, especially since I started wearing transition lens glasses.

I don't know whether it's OCP or not but my Decibel came with a visor and I've never seen a need to remove it. I also wear Arc's when I ride and I like that they are shaded somewhat by the visor.
