Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who's going to the Tour de Georgia?

What stage are you going to watch?

What part of the stage will you be watching from?

I'm from Chattanooga so I will be watching the end of stage 3 at the finish line and then about halfway up the biggest climb on the stage 4 TT the next day. Last year I was really impressed with the size of the crowd at the finish line for the TT.

I know some of y'all hate the TdG, but I have really enjoyed having that caliber of event easily accessible from this part of the country.

I'm riding the whole thing with a tour group, and should be at most finishes, and at some picnic/viewing area on Brasstown Bald (if I don't die pedalling my way up).

Are you touring with Jittery Joes?

I'm going to make a few stages, the Athens Twilight crit is a lot of fun to watch if you have never seen it.

Yeah.

I'm looking forward to the racing, but mostly I'm looking forward to the riding.

Did you have a good tour with JJ's?

I never did it, I live in the same town as the team and my bike shop is their home store. I just knew about their tour. It seems like it's going to be a blast, I wish I was able to do it.

I'll be at stage 5 watching them climb up Brasstown. Stage 6 should be fun too, Lake Lanier is my normal Saturday morning group ride.

I am planning on stages 4-7 (coming from Ohio.) If anyone has any more suggestions about places to watch, (besides the starts and finishes) I would love to hear it.

I would think that the top of Hogpen Gap would be a very good spot. The climb is brutal and the view is great while you wait. It's also just a hop and a skip back to Helen to hit the pub.

I want to catch Stage 4. Any suggestions on a great place to be along the way? I'm driving in from Charlotte, hopefully with some other BF'ers from the area, but alone if necessary.

See you there. I'll probably ride my cyclocross rig there, as Ochs Hwy is right next to some really nice scenic trails that run up past Rock City.

Plan on the last stage. I've been to the Alpharetta finish every year and am bummed they moved it downtown as the Alpharetta finish line was about 4 miles from my house. Thinking about going to Brasstown but I hear its super packed.

Thats Hub Cycles correct? I was in there the other day and received no service whatsoever. 1 guy was on the phone talking to what was obviously his friend, and the other 2 guys never bothered to come out from behind the counter. Hope they treat you better.....

bsma, if you think you might go to Stage 4, and are interested in sharing the ride, let me know. Maybe some others will be interested, too. I'll check on the regional forum.
