Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which computer is your favorite for $50

Right now i,m looking at the Sigma BC 1606L DTS and i might throw in the cadence or i might just get it later. Any other suggestions of a computer around $50 that you think is an outstanding computer.

Has anybody used this? I need a new computer, with cadence, and was thinking about this one. The only thing holding me back is that I'm not sure if I can mount the speed sensor on the rear wheel.

Im currently using the Sigma BC 1606L DTS Wireless. Previously I was using the Cateye Micro Wireless.

The display of the Sigma wins hands down over the Cateye. Clear numbers and display, and a backlight that actually lights up the whole screen, instead of just a corner of the Cateye.

However the top 2 buttons of the Sigma do get fustrating at times, as they sometimes refuse to respond to your fingers. You have to really push down on them. The fork sensor of the Sigma is also much more bulky than the Cateye.

Another thing that bothers me is that the mounting system of the Sigma uses rubber o-rings, rather than zip ties used with the Cateye. Not as secure as zip ties, and sometimes they shift towards the wheels on particularly rough rides. The spoke magnet of the Sigma doesnt have a very secure mount on it too. These are my main beefs with Sigma.

Other that that, I am very satisfied with my purchase. You should go down to your LBS and see which display u prefer, as that is likely to be the major factor in your purchase.

yeah i was looking at the BC 2006 MHR with the altitude and HR and wondering if that would be a better purchase.. I love the sigma screen. But it seems as though the cateye is better other than the computer. I also do have zip ties that i could put on there instead and was wondering if that would work

I had the Cat Eye Astrale 8, and was pretty happy with it, but then, while pressing a button, it popped of the mount and into the oblivion of post winter road debris, never to be found again. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a pain to clean around all the wires and zip ties on my downtube, and that I couldn't mount it to my stem.

i agree with you about the rubber o-rings, they look cleaner, but they can allow for some movement. i wish the speed sensor had the slots that the cadence sensor has, so you could mount it with zip ties if you wanted to, but it doesn't...

one note though, the spoke magnet it not coded to work with just that speed sensor, so if you like the one that came with your cateye, than try to use that one with the sigma speed sensor. i don't see why it wouldn't work, they're both magnets...

and i will be the first to admit that the display on the CatEye Micro Wireless leaves something to be desired, but i don't ride at night, and it provides me with everything i need in a computer. and unlike the Sigma, everything mounts securely, with zip ties...

It doesn't have trip distance and trip time though right?

I'm getting my first cyclocomputer and I'm confused whether some additional parts are needed for cadence. I don't want to spend too much and I don't think I need too many features. So there are two Sigma's

BC 1600:
https://pedalpowerct.com/itemdetails....iceasc&id=1239

And BC 1606:
https://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?p...ajor=3&minor=2

All out haha:
https://pedalpowerct.com/itemdetails....gId=82&id=2829

The 1606 seems to have cadence, but do you need any additional parts in order to get that? Or is it worth it to just spend the money and get the flight deck?

Do the computers come with everything you need to install them (other than the flight deck)?

I might just end up going with a decent cheap computer, just because I don't think I require all those features and additional stuff that flight decks have.

Thanks for the help, and good luck on your purchase to the OP.

+1 on the astrale 8. my only regret is I'd like a max-cadence register on it and the ability to transfer previous total odometer miles in case I switch what bike its on.

the 1606L DTS comes with everything you need, including the cadence sensor, but myself and others don't like how the speed sensor mounts, with o-rings instead of zip ties...

do you need cadence?

Does the 1606L come with the cadence sensor, or is that separate?

works grate.

The cord that goes to the speed sensor is not long enough to make it to the chainstay, they make a longer one... I think I remember it being around 12$. I just cut the cord and soldered a bit more on.

This is a good question! Mine did come with a cadence sensor, the box made it seem like it was an extra. The sales people at REI told me the same thing. But there was a sensor included with mine. happy suprise.
