Yeah I saw you..you stupid ***** (and your spandex clad male-***** friend)

Yeah I stepped out on "The Crosswalk" on purpose. You were far enough away to slow down.

Far enough away to hit this little ****en invention called "Breaks".

You better watch it when you make a snide comment when people don’t give a **** about your spandex bike life..if you don’t whanna break for people (who have the right away) and who don’t care about your neon spandex ****rag lifestyle go over to ****en New Jersey. )

I followed after you to see if you and your ****rag friend were going to stop at the lights so I could knock you off your ****en ******-machine. You both looked like ******* on wheels.

I seriously hope you get hit by a car.

Dude, don't worry or think too much about anything posted in the rants and raves section of CL. This is probably the first or second thread from there that I've seen that doesn't start with "Why are (insert your favorite racial epithet here) so lazy?"

LOL what a waste of humanity. What is this inadequacy some people feel around those of us who lack inhibitions related to tight clothing?

It is like a brake, but it causes near by carbon frames, parts, wheels, etc to burst in to flames.

Well, I do agree that you should come over to NJ to ride. There is something pathetic about the many NYC riders who get most of their miles going around in a little circle in the parks.

It sounds like he has a legit complaint. I have nearly been hit by cyclists on the streets of San Francisco who, like cagers, run the red lights or don't want to brake for pedestrians that have the right of way.

We cyclists need to remember what "Share the Road" means sometimes as well. And it's these kind of inconsiderate cyclists that give the rest of us bad names.

So pleae be careful and be considerate of others. Then maybe you can change one pedestrian's or cager's misconception at a time of we cyclists out there.

Yeah well, I've almost had a car plow into me avoiding an idiot ped who stepped right in front of me without looking while I was on the road. I've also had to go through the grass to avoid people on the local dedicated bike path (there are pedestrian lanes that no one uses, every moron sees fit to take their wheelchair and/or dog/kid with heelies/grocery cart down the lane that is supposed to be just for cyclists.) Make all the noise you want, some folks will just persist in walking three wide facing away from you taking up all the room available... I've literally been right behind folks and had to YELL "on your left" to get any room.

The roads in CP are plenty wide for people to find their way around each other, you can run the lights and keep out of the way of pedestrians if you make any kind of effort. They aren't pedestrian pathways, they are actual roads...

No, YOU should move to Florida, Texas, or California. There is something pathetic about the many northern, midwestern, and east coast riders who get most of their winter miles riding on a trainer.

Hey hey hey now...there are plenty of us riders in the NE that get our base miles on the road in the winter. Tossed the trainer long ago and never looked back. I feel sorry for those in the South and So Cal that don't know the joy of 3-4hrs in 5 degree weather with a 15mph headwind. Cold weather base makes for a strong race season.

California!?!? At least where I live the trainer wasn't necessary. I was riding my bike in Jan and Feb when my buddy in Dallas was iced in.

Am I missing something? Never mind the poster's obvious emotional issues; he stepped out on the "crosswalk" and almost got hit by a cyclist. I don't know what the laws are in New York regarding crosswalks, or whether the terminology is different there, but any cyclist who hit a pedestrian on a crosswalk in Toronto would be charged the same as the driver of a car would.

Sounds like the cyclists were the a-s-s-holes in this case.

There are traffic lights in the park, but we have no clue who had the right of way. The person that posted on CL said he/she "stepped out on 'The Crosswalk' on purpose" like he/she was looking for trouble.

And the cyclist was thinking "I just dropped that OMG POSER pedestrian! Lemme dial it up to 400 watts and teach them a lesson while they eat my dust!"

***holes? I doubt it in this case. Central Park is a closed loop without stop signs or traffic lights (well a few for the taxis). The entire set up is designed to keep joggers, rollerbladers, and cyclists moving along. Of course care by all is assumed. A pedestrian crossing the pathway, is duty bound by common sense to look to see if anyone's coming. Chances are pretty good there is! Peds have no more right of way than anyone else on the road in the park.

No one has "right of way" until it is given. Various local laws and customs determine who should yeild to who. Personally I am usually prepared to yeild the right of way to anyone I see likely to intersect my line of travel. This includes pedestrians stepping into the street, joggers running three wide the wrong direction in the bike lane, cars backing out of their driveways into the street, some dumb broad talking on her cell phone looking the other way while edging forward into the street, landscaping trucks weaving around like they have already been at the tequila this morning, city busses at bus stops, kids playing and running around in the front yard, dogs cats coyotes deer squirrels birds , tumbleweeds rocks bricks sticks branches pipe fittings constuction debris and anything else everyone seems to feel the need to throw in the street.

The Craigslist poster used the word "crosswalk." I don't know about New York or the United States, but in Ontario "crosswalk" is a term that has legal significance. If you're a pedestrian on a crosswalk in Ontario you have the right of way, and any vehicles coming toward you must stop and allow you to pass.

In Central Park there are idiot pedestrians and idiot bikers...and plenty of both. My sense is that for most incidents or near incidents, I would venture to say that both parties involved were doing something stupid.

Sure, the pedestrian shouldn't walk out in the crosswalk when the light is green, but the cyclist with the green light should be riding in control and still approaching all the crosswalks with care. Conversely, if the light is red, sure, the biker should stop, but any pedestrian crossing should have the sense to look and make sure it's safe to cross.
