Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

More ebay Scammage?

Just a heads up, in case you've bid on one of this seller's bikes:

https://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-2007-O...QQcmdZViewItem

He/she's never sold a bike in the past but has about 30 new bikes for sale, starting bid $.10 for each one, free shipping, is asking to be contacted by email outside of ebay. Something smells.

Cheers.

^^^^ No problem. This aution is particularly bad since I'm still waiting for my 2007 Orca frameset and the guy is selling Orbeas. Mine should be here on the 10th of this month though.

Most likely a hijacked seller account. How this constantly happens is beyond me. Email the guy and ask him if he is using his ill gotten gains to fund terrorism? You know tracking of all the keywords in your email. And then tell him when GW's spys get him it will not be pretty.

So, the seller takes paypal. Isn't there some protection from that?

Why give this guy any more information? Unless you're very clever or have a throw-away email account, you're going to give the guy information about you. I say let eBay take care of the research. Assuming they will. I'm not going to send this guy any email.

Oilman has correctly pointed out that the account has probably been hijacked so the PayPal account belongs to the hijackee. The guy is hoping to harvest more eBay accounts through his attempt to get people to send their eBay accounts to him/her.

Geez, I should have figured that out since my E-Bay account was hacked once. The hacker used my account to try to sell hundreds of porn pictures. How nice of him!

Yeah, happened to me once too, only they were trying to sell DVD sets around Christmass. Luckily, someone asked a question about one of the auctions and I got the email. I sent a question to the "seller" so maybe they'll get some warning.

This kind of ad was pretty popular last year when I was looking at Tarmacs. Dozens of tricked out Tarmacs would be for sale there, all with requests to email them at a certain address for a sale outside of eBay. I reported all of them that I could find and eventually I noticed that they stopped being so frequent. Probably an account hack, too.

I've seen an inordinate amount of these scams with Cervelo bikes.

This guy had 31 auctions for different mid/high end bikes. Orbeas, Specialized, Cervelo, etc. The amazing part is that a lot of the auctions had multiple bids! I don't understand why people never do any checking.
