Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 1000C Question

Hey all,

Do any of you have a Trek 1000c and if so, what are you thoughts of the Bike? I was in my LBS today and I test rode a 2005 model and was quite surprised at the ride of that bike. I have worked out a deal to get the price at $500.00 or just under it a bit. Would that be a good deal? Or are there other offerings in that price range that I should look at. I'm 5' 11" I am 250 lbs and I am 49 years old. My goal is to ride on the road 20-30 miles a day to help lose weight and then keep it off. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

I think $500 for that bike is a great entry bike for you to start with. In a year you'll want to spend at least 4 times that for your next one.

And don't forget the accessories - pump, flat kit, extra tube, shorts/bibs, jersey.

#1 concern - make sure it fits you

I ride an '04 1000C that I got for about $500 and I'm quite happy with it. I believe the 'C' designation became the Pilot series in '06, and that's a very popular choice for recreational road / bike path riding. It sounds like you may not be accustomed to a road bike, so the relaxed geometry should be helpful as well. Your goals are basically the same as my dad's, and I think my 1000C would be great for him - he'll get mine if I ever upgrade to a new one. If the bike fits, I'd go for it.

Thanks Guys,

The bike was a perfect fit that's why I was asking about it before I pulled the trigger. I was totally impressed with how fast and how comfortable it was. Appreciate the input and the advice on the gear to pick up!

Thanks again!
John
