looking for RX cycling glasses
I am newer to cycling, wear glasses and was looking to purchase a pair of cycling glasses for this summer. I've also read about a thin pliable plastic shield you can place against regular lens almost like putting tint onto a car window. Has anyone who wears glasses tried any cycling eyeglasse company or used the thin pliable RX prescription lens you can just apply to your existing non presciption sunglasses. I have my Rx from eye doctor so sending out to a company wouldn't be a problem. Any thoughts or advice appreciated. Wardie

You can buy Rx inserts for many sunglasses, including Bolle and Oakley M Frame.

I am really happy with my Nike's from heavyglare.com. No inserts to mess with (or fog between, etc), frames with great lenses in them - they can even do some crazy bad prescriptions. Mine were about $200 but a great investment.

You need to compare your prescription to the maximum sphere and cyclinder of the particular frame/manufacturer. If you have a significant astigmatism like I do, you will have to be limited to the type of frame and lens source that you can use.

Timely post. I just picked up a pair of Rudy Project Rydons on Friday and got my prescription filled with the insert. And I'm incredibly happy to have finally done so.
I've been looking since the fall, but decided to wait until after the winter just to save up some money. It ended up helping in making my decision at least as Tifosi seems to have a lot fewer options for glasses with inserts this year. And so I went with the Rudys. They look good (that's what is most important, right? ), do a good job of keeping the wind out of my eyes, keep the sun out of my eyes and make things clear.

I have a stronger prescription and the Rudy clip ons messed up my depth perception. The direct-in lenses work great for my Rudy's.

I picked up a pair of Bolle's at Wal Mart for 50 bux. Ya dont like them--take them back. Rx insert was $26 on ebay and $75 for the script. Love them.

I have the Rudy Project Rydons as well and my RX is higher than they recommend (-6 in each eye.) They took a while to get used to, but I couldn't be happier with them.

I like Rudy Projects with the inserts because 1) with an insert, you can still swap lens colors easily (and cheaper than 3 sets of Rx lenses) and 2) if you scratch a color lens, you send it back for $15 and get a new one rather than having a new prescription lens made.

I have the Rudy Project Kaylos with Rx insert. Don't know if it's an adjustment issue, but I find my Rx insert to get pressed onto my face easily and thus gets smeared making things more difficult to see. It also took me a little while to get used to the feel of my eyelashes hitting the Rx frame.
