Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Sunday Ride 4/8

So if you got to ride today how was it? As for me, the weather out here was not too cooperative so I rode the exersize bike at the gym on the "hill" program. Just did about 10 miles as I also did a swimming workout.

It was pretty cold...44 degrees. So I just did a short out and back on Beach Drive I use when time (or weather) require it. I'd usually see at least 25 other cyclists out there...today I saw maybe 6. But it was good to be riding.

I cycled 2.5 miles with my trailer, up a hill to the local grocery co-op to get some groceries......and they were closed for Easter. So I cycled back and went to the smaller neighborhood grocery store down the street. Got groceries and lugged them home.

And it did not feel that bad considering it was 34 degrees F with wind (some gusts up to 20 mph).

I only got in 15 miles this afternoon because it's been windy and raining on and off.

I also made brunch for my wife for Easter Sunday which included a few mimosas with seafood eggs benedict (baby shrimp & crab meat instead of ham) and turkey based kielbasa so that probably affected my motivation a bit.

Did a 43 mile ride with my local club. It was in the low 40's with a stiff breeze. It even snow flurried for part of the ride but it was good. Bonked 5 miles from the end. (Too aggressive with the weight loss program. ) Was a hilly ride, Gerry

Stayed on the trainer today, more for time reasons than weather, but it is still pretty cold here. Hung over, poor sleep, horrible pre-ride breakfast, but still got some good intervals in...

40km outside, which was a nice change from the trainer. However, one too many potholes made my shoulders hurt; I need a stationary trainer that jars the bike every 45s.

Weather: 7C wind 22km/h

53 miles in the cold. 36 degrees and NW wind. Toes and fingers were numb by the end of the ride. I knew the nice weather of the last few weeks was going to be a teaser.

Just a lazy 30 mile out and back along the coast. Overcast and a little breezy but not cold.

Roads dried nicely while I was fiddling around discovering the truth about installing fenders with marginally short brake binder bolts. So, I didn't need fenders and went out and had a fun solo hammerfest of 50 km or so. I smell turkey...yummmmmmmm...

73 miles, at least 3500 vertical feet of climbing. It will be more fun when the temps are over 35ºF.

This weather truly sucks. Typical early Spring in the Hudson Valley however. The weather here ALWAYS sucks for much of April.

I only did a bit less than 20 miles today. I felt like doing a lot more, but I procrastinated at waking up this morning, so by the time I did wake up I only had time to cycle to our family gathering for Easter. It got a few chuckles from my family members as I rode up in my lycra if they didn't know about my cycling addiciton.

well, i only did 18.6mi this afternoon i really just set out today to find a 5mi stretch of road that was fairly flat and had no stops on it. i accomplished that - gonna use this as my training ground for the 10mi TT i signed up for in May.

it was fairly windy as well, had a headwind going out and fortunately, a tailwind coming back
