To get new tires, or not to get new tires
As of now, I am using the stock Mondo tires that came with my Specialized Allez Elite for both training and racing. After reading countless threads regarding the noticeable performace on quality tires, I am considering getting either Michelin P2R or Vittoria Open Corsa CX.
I only have one wheelset, and I am wondering if I should make the switch. "Of course, dummy!" would be the obvious answer; my problem, however, is that I want the advantage of the better tires during a race, but I also want durable tires for training. I can't afford another wheelset, so that is out of the question.
What to do, what to do...

You can switch the tires before and after your races.

Will different tires really make a difference in your race results? or do you just want new tires and you're looking for validation? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The Open Corsas are amazing. Huge leap from the Mondos. Not only in terms of decreased rolling resistance but the ride is soooo much smoother. Fast, silky smooth, great traction. Alas all good things come at a price. They aren't cheap and don't expect lots of miles out of them. You can get some decent life out of them but they are well past their prime pretty quickly. Consider swapping them out and using them now and again.

I recommend a compromise...Vittoria Rubino Pro's. A excellent tire for training or racing, and you can get them much cheaper than the Open Corsas or P2R.

I think the difference is slightly overhyped personally.
But hell yeah. Upgrades!
