Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

saddle cut out

so i am shopping around for a new saddle and i think i settled on the selle italia prolink gel. It has the anatomical cut out...does this really make that much of a difference? Also any reviews on the saddle are welcome too

Cut-outs work for some people. For others, the cut-out is worse because it creates more edges to pinch your soft tissue. Different saddles and different butts are shaped differently, so try to sit on a bunch to figure out what fits you the best.

I read a story once where a guy dropped a ball through his seat somehow and had to cut the seat to get them out. Makes my eyes water just thinking about it.

It makes a big difference to me. Every one I've ridden without a cutout causes numbness - some quicker than others. You really don't want those bits to be unintentionally numb.

Strategic intentional use of the phrase "unintentional". Suggests that there's a side of you no one should ask about.

OK, I am now considering going back to a saddle without a cutout. I can't imagine it feeling good to get stuck down there.

For the OP, I just switched to a Max Flite with a cutout, and for the first time in my life it wasn't pinching my prostate! The downside to that is that I could feel the urgent need to pee for the second half of my 3 hour ride last weekend!!!

You would have to have tiny balls for that to happen...

I tend to like a cut out and have a couple Selle Italia Geniune Gel Flights, but I also use a couple Bontrager saddles without a cutout. My Madone came with a RaceXLite Pro, I like it but thought the Flight might be better on longer (60+ mile rides).
