Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First Road Bike

After commuting on my fixed-fork mtb for the last six months, I've finally got my first road bike

It's a 2007 Scott S30 with full Shimano 105 groupset and a weight of about 19 lbs.

Took it for a 50 mile hill ride today, so much better than the mtb

I'll post some pictures tomorrow when I get the chance.

Nice bike man.I finally found it just now under speedster. Spec'd very sensible and they chose a strong color. What pedals have you selected? Bein' a mountain biker you may have gone with a mb type pedal or brand.I've yet to receive my newest bike and STILL haven't made my mind-up.I'm laening towards some speedplay frogs.I'm 100% sure I'm riding in a mountain shoe,I've already BOUGHT them .I've never had clipless. Many older dudes seem to favor them in the reviews so I figured..... you'd have input. I'd considered a carbon bike, still too fat though.Maybe next bike,if I'm feelin' worthy. Of course welcome to the forum,I'm new too.

I loved the switch from mtb commuter to road bike. But now you're spoiled- dont expect the same effect when you upgrade your roadie in a few years!

As Promised...Pictures!!

Piccies:

The bike was AU$1800, and my lbs threw in the pedals, bottle cage and lights for nothing. There were a few other similarly specced bikes all around the same price point, but the next step up was a similar alu frame but with full ultegra for AU$2300, but that seemed a little excessive for a first bike

I got LOOK pedals, although I'm not sure of the exact type. Went with some Sidi road shoes (the ones with the plastic/fiberglass?? sole) clipless took a bit of getting used to. Felt a little bit claustrophobic at first, what with being physically attached to the bike, but the increase in power transfer is just . I don;'t think I can go back to the platform pedals on the mtb now.

105 group seems really solid, although the upshifts on the reaer derailleur (onto smaller cogs) are a little rough, but the lbs has a free servicing policy for the first twelve months, so it's going in for a regular checkup next week. anyone else had rough changes on 105, is it just a drawback of the cheaper groupset?

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this as a first roadie
